Gubb and Hingano futures?
Any idea what they are doing after ‘18?
Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
Mole reporting Gubbs gone already, Hingano is signed for next year
Unless he takes his option, which I kinda hope he does

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
Gubb was a non starter for Mounties last weekend.
Hingano was signed for next year when he first signed... but had an option to leave at the end of the year if he believes he's not had a fair chance at NRL selection. You'd have to think he's had more than his fair chance though.

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
Honestly id like us to keep hingano, has potential and we are short on halves

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
I don't think he's a first grade half, not really a top 17 player, so only if he's not taking much cap.
Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
Why did we sign a deal in Hinganos favour if he plays well? Sums us up, if I play well you upgrade me, if I am rubbish you're stuck with me.

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
Id like to see hingano have A shot at playing in the halves before he's earmarked as 'not up to first grade' not just a few games at hooker and one on the wing
I've got legs, and i know how to use them
Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
It was more that he left the Warriors as he didn't feel he was getting a fair shot at first grade selection. And he was on a promise he'd get a shot here. And so that's why that is in the contract... if he wasn't getting picked, he could leave. He's contracted for next season, it's not an issue of getting an upgrade.

Gubb and Hingano futures?
Not fussed on either. Really think Hingano is a reserve grader / squad filler at best. Would rather Williams or Wighton at Five Eight

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
I don’t think we have really seen enough of Hingano to know where he is at. He came 5 mins before round 1 and when he did play he was out of position.
I expect he will have recovered from his injury by the start of pre-season and will have a crack for a starting spot that at this stage is definitely up for grabs.

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
Hingano is less than 12 months removed from playing to a great standard in the RLWC, is he not?
And he’s not even been selected for us as a starting half, or even had an 80 minute crack yet?
Given how shallow the halves talent pool is across the code generally, surely it’s worth keeping him and giving him an actual chance to show us what he’s got??

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
Majority of the teams in the WC are Mounties standard to be completely honest

Not a huge fan of Hingano off what I've seen. Gubb, I at least liked for forward depth.

Hingano will come good with a few runs in his preferred position. Agree he has shown nothing so far but there is something about him.

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
I'd rather we keep Hingano than take a punt on someone else's depth.
Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
Hingano showed flashes last year and was pretty good in the wc

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
On a side note have we re-signed Lui? If it's not bottom dollar I hope we let him walk. If he's looking for an upgrade hopefully he gets it at another club.
Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
Gubb it's off to England before the cut off.

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
He was due to sign for Leigh in the second tier. As they are now unlikely to make the Middle 8s, they are letting players go right, left and centre to save money.
Very unlikely Gubb will be going there, now.
Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
Gubb was rubbish. LUKE PAGE any day. There's half a dozen Gubbs in any local comp- a guy playing prop because he is slightly overweight or putting on too much because he is needed to play prop. Either way he offers no offload, power, endurance, speed, hitting power or agility. Plodder in every aspect. Sorry Gubb. Not worth a spot.
Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
I stand corrected I re read the Carney story on NRL.com.MrPosh wrote:He was due to sign for Leigh in the second tier. As they are now unlikely to make the Middle 8s, they are letting players go right, left and centre to save money.

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
I was happy enough with gubb signing, all we needed in his role was a guy who can come on for 15mins and play up tempo. Unfortunately he just wasn't able to do it, didn't have much luck with injury but certainly looked underdone in pre-season

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
I'm not a fan of this mindset that every club needs some cheap plodders with NRL experience who can come on and be mediocre for 15 minutes a game or come into the side and be mediocre for a few weeks.
I think the top clubs realize what you see is what you get and a poor NRL player will likely continue to be poor if you sign them, so they barely invest in those players at all and put young minimum wage players with genuine potential and upside into those roles.

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
I'm not saying plodder, just a middle who can play a role - come on and up the tempo with some good charges.edwahu wrote:I'm not a fan of this mindset that every club needs some cheap plodders with NRL experience who can come on and be mediocre for 15 minutes a game or come into the side and be mediocre for a few weeks. We have the workers, we struggle with dynamic, IMO only of course.

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
I agree you need to barely invest in those players but looking at the rosters of the top 4 clubs.... they all have their Gubb (and more cheap plodders with NRL experience). It's just their quality curve is steeper than ours.

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
Think Lui last year (pre injury). Think Knight this year.
With one big preseason Knight can fill Luis role on minimum wage, if not with a little more aggression. If he cant, Bateman can. We have an abundance of middle of the road props, we have juniors coming through like Guler looking for an opportunity, and we are short of premier props now we have lost both Boyd and Paulo.
Signing Lui on anything other than minimum would be a massive waste of cap space.
Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
It's 2 or 3 at those clubs with about half a dozen games between them. We have about 6 or 7 who have played a stack of games. They much prefer playing younger guys from what I see, we seem to have gone away from that.

Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
You think we are seeing a slight correction in that for 2019? I mean if we hopefully keep Guler / Horsburgh.
Re: Gubb and Hingano futures?
I think we will have too, especially if Lui goes. More through bad cap management then planning though.
I will probably whinge about a lack of first grade depth then

Anthony Swann, Odell Manuel, Billy T, Gubb and Hingano.
I propose we never buy another former Warrior.
