A tribute to my dad
I would like to dedicate the raiders victory tonight to my father who passed away after a brave battle with cancer, 2 hours from kickoff time. He was 62 years young. He was a massive bulldogs fanatic, and i am a massive raiders fanatic. We had lots of great times watching these games over the years and everytime the raiders lost he was there to cheer me up, and believe me the raiders have made me need a lot of cheering up since i started supporting them in 94. My best memory was about 18 years ago at the olympic stadium where we won 32-0. We had planned to go to this game even before dad became sick and we both would have loved this game.
Rest in peace big fella and well see each other soon

Amazing post lucky.
You are brave.
You also have an enormous extended family here, I don’t post much, but I will for this
You are loved, you are not alone.

I lost my grandmother today. Died at 6am at 92 years of age. I'd be lying if I said she cared about the footy, probably doesn't even know who the raiders are... I've felt empty all day and with 10 to go I was tempted to do something I never do and turn off the game. Needless to say I'm thankful I didn't.
Condolences to you lucky and thank you for sharing your story.

So sorry, mate
Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Sorry to hear mate, I lost my mum to Cancer as well, she wasn't a League fan but a massive Raiders fan because she knew when they won her boys were happy. Maybe they can be up there having the flip side to the discussion we are having. All the best.
Re: A tribute to my dad
Condolences fellas and thanks for sharing. Perspective is a wonderful thing on a footy forum sometimes. Take care.
We continue to **** about with blokes that are part of some fraternity. It's infuriating.
Re: A tribute to my dad
Sorry to hear. My feelings are the same, all my parents want to do is see me happy.... the raiders did that for me tonight.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.
