Canberra Raiders Ata Hingano out for the season, Luke Bateman out for 3-4 weeks

Ata Hingano has received some disappointing news following his ankle injury in the Pacific Test, with the Tongan international to miss the remainder of the season. His Syndesmosis injury requires surgery and he will be unavailable for the remainder of 2018.

Canberra Raiders forward Luke Bateman is set to miss four weeks, after he underwent minor knee surgery during the club's bye round.

That's a shame for Hingano, it will be interesting to see if takes up his option for next year after a bit of a disaster of a season. It does give us up to 350k to sign a replacement though under the new rep rules.

The upside of the Bateman injury is I guess we will get to see Guler debut.

The Bateman injury is a real blow, even though I'm sure plenty of the usual idiots on here will be quite happy about it. I wonder what sparked the knee surgery? Maybe it was something that was supposed to be quick and easy but they found something bad?

I feel bad for Hingano too. After the pasting he's copped for his mishmash role at 1st grade level now he's robbed of the opportunity to go build himself a case at Mounties.

It’ll sound mean, but I really hope that’s the end of Hingano in Canberra.

The $350k plus whatever else we can scrounge should be enough for a half we can take a punt on.

Would love to see Guler get a crack but looks like Paulo will be in the side for the broncos game.

Yeah if Paulo isn't ready then I imagine it will be Sir Charlie of Gubbington.

Injuries are always bad news regardless of who they happen to. Real people on the end of them.

And in this case, I feel bad for both.

Hingano has talent, he was given ZERO structure or situation to show it off.

Bateman is not exciting, but gee he’s one of the few who can walk off the field each week having given everything for the jumper... something we ask of all the players but seem to so rarely get, this guy stands out. He’s much more about “bleeding green” than his fraudulent head coach, who seems to toss the phrase out like Dennis Denuto espousing “the vibe”

Sucks for Hingano.

Surely Batemans surgery could have waited...

It's only minor after all.

We dont get the compensation, player needs to miss 13 games, so unless we make the finals we get nothing

That can’t be the way it works cat.

It’d be ridiculous if that was the rule and we suddenly had 350k to spend on players for 4 weeks of finals!

Finals surely cannot be counted.

They will count the finals automatically. They must or it gives no coverage for rep round and solves nothing.

It sounds like unless we sign someone this week they will have to be promoted from our own system. They also have to play the same position and its capped at Hinganos current deal. So someone like O'Hagan or Roache would probably get upgraded to firsts.

Do you mean if Paulo isn’t back as Ricky said or even if he is? Or are you advocating for dropping Lui or Knight?

Where did this figure of 350k for Hingano come from?

350k is the max you get to replace an injured rep player. When I checked it's actually capped at the same level as the player they are replacing. So probably more like 150k for Hingano.

What position would the NRL allow us to replace him with? He has played hooker, was playing Half back for Tonga he has played on the wing.

from the NRL website

"The size of the salary cap exemption a club is entitled to will depend on the amount of the injured player’s contract and the number of Telstra Premiership rounds left, with $350,000 covering a $1 million player ruled out for 12 rounds."

So I would take this to mean with 10 rounds to go we would get an exemption of 10/12 of what ever his his salary is.
Pure speculation but i think this would mean that if his contract is say $150k. He is paid $6,000 per round so the exemption is $60,000.
Given we haven't used all of the 30 players may be better just prepaying someone else and use it next year.
