It’s a good line up... Depth may be an issue but I can see them fighting for the 8...

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Think Newcastle will finally break their wooden spoon trend this year. Fringe bottom 4 side.

They were saying on Triple M last night Nathan Brown is about to re-sign.
The contract is unique as its open ended. He can coach as long as he or the board feels capable. The moment they start performing poorly, or the players lose faith, the board can cut him.

Interesting. Not too dissimilar to how it works now, but without the payment at the end when the coach is shipped off. It'd be difficult for the coach without any guarantees though.

Interesting situation.

All Browny has to do is stay above 50% W/L ratio is he gets paid.

Lucky our coach isn't on a similar deal..he'd be gone by now.

Wasn't there a thread specifically about D Furners winning percentage that got bumped/updated every week? I think his percentage was not dissimilar to Stuart's.

Buhrer injury compounds defeat to Roosters

A potential season ending knee injury to Newcastle co-captain Jamie Buhrer further soured Saturday night's 18-16 defeat against the Sydney Roosters. Scans are expected to confirm the back-rower has ruptured his ACL, ruling him out for the remainder of 2018.

Hindmarsh relieved Ponga didn't play Origin I

Parramatta Eels great Nathan Hindmarsh has praised the continued development of Knights fullback Kalyn Ponga and expressed relief he didn't feature in game one of the 2018 State of Origin series.

After making a blistering start to his time on Newcastle, Ponga has responded to increased attention from opponents in fine style.

Why? Doesn't SKD drop enough balls already?
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

David Klemmer signs with Newcastle Knights, Dylan Napa joins Canterbury Bulldogs

Newcastle have secured the biggest recruit of the 2019 NRL season, signing NSW and Australian prop David Klemmer on a five-year deal, while Dylan Napa has been released from his Roosters contract to replace Klemmer at the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs granted Klemmer an immediate release from the final two years of his deal, allowing the prop to take up a deal with the Knights worth around $4.3 million. On Monday afternoon the Roosters confirmed Napa had been released from the final year of his contract to join the Bulldogs on a three-year deal.

Would be some creative accounting going on here to allow the dogs to swap Origin props and help alleviate some cap issues. Not sure what the Rorters gain though.

They get rid of a lazy prop that that has an issue with discipline on the field.

Newcastle Knights sign Kurt Mann to end 2021 after Dragons release

The Newcastle Knights have signed utility Kurt Mann to a three-year deal after Mann was released by the St George Illawarra Dragons.

He was granted a release from the final year of his St George Illawarra contract to join Newcastle, where he'll fill the 29th spot in the club's 30-man roster for 2019.

I'd question their line of thinking but Buderus did well in making Griffin a serviceable hooker so maybe they'll be able to do the same with Mann.
Another nail in the Levi hype coffin.
