Rep quality you say?afgtnk wrote: ↑May 8, 2018, 11:56 pmI think the club needs to swing for the fences because we have nothing to lose. AFGHTK. genuine question, who do you think we should be targeting to replace Sezer? Punish keeps talking up Drinkwater but I have never seen or heard of him. I think going out on a limb and paying big money for a young half is one of the riskiest things a club can do, and honestly I can't remember the last (recent) time it resulted in immediate and/or sustained success.
You need at least one of your halves to be a top player, either now or in the near future, if you want to win a premiership - we don't have that.
Can only go on for so long with only your regular hooker being the lone rep quality player in the spine.
You know what and I'm not suggesting it will actually happen, or for that matter should happen. But I wouldn't be surprised if Sezer is in serious contention for a spot in the NSW origin halves. Of the halves available right now he is one of the best defenders, including one-on-one and has a great kicking game when he is actually able to show it. If Cleary isn't ready I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see him picked.

Yep a handful of good games among a truckload of average ones has me sitting here with very little care if we lose Sezer. I don’t think we’ll miss him and as long as it’s not Williams replacing him, I’m comfortable with him moving on

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Aidan Sezer is not in contention for NSW and he never will be mate.
There's literally at least 6-8 players that would be picked ahead of him, even with NSW's dire stocks.

I legitimately can’t think of one, unless you play Maloney out of position.

Cleary, Brooks, Moses, Green, Keary, Reynolds.
Maloney, Moylan, Norman out of position. Pearce if fit.

Re: Melbourne Storm turn to Canberra Raiders Aidan Sezer for Cooper Cronk replacement
Half of those guys in the top line are five-eighths! Pearce isn't fit!
I'd argue a fair chunk of them aren't better than Sezer either, wait... wait... is this a dubby trap?? Ok, you've got me, fairgoitall!
Re: Melbourne Storm turn to Canberra Raiders Aidan Sezer for Cooper Cronk replacement
I think Keary might be the only five eighth in the top line. The Nickman wrote: ↑May 9, 2018, 9:55 amHalf of those guys in the top line are five-eighths! Pearce isn't fit!

Green's currently playing halfback, Moses is currently playing halfback.
I don't necessarily think all of those players are better than Sezer, but NSW are NSW.
If all those halfbacks got injured, I guarantee they'd pick an organising five eighth like Maloney at halfback and put someone like Wade Graham (if fit) or Jack Bird at five eighth before picking Sezer (or any Raider for that matter).

Apologies, I see Green is also at five eighth. I thought he was playing halfback whilst Johnson was out, but they've got Mason Lino at 7.

Re: Melbourne Storm turn to Canberra Raiders Aidan Sezer for Cooper Cronk replacement
I'd be shocked if Sezer was picked for NSW. Even with injuries I can never see it happening. NSW just don't roll that way. They'd go with someone with a bit more media pizzazz regardless of form. They'd pick Moses based on his first month's form before picking Sezer.
Even someone like Wade Graham with his lack of form and terrible 7 tackle set kicking game when it's called upon could get a halves spot for the blues before Sezer.

Re: Melbourne Storm turn to Canberra Raiders Aidan Sezer for Cooper Cronk replacement
I did mention 'available' players, so that immediately removes Pearce and Cleary at this point in time. To suggest Brooks and Moses as better than Sezer is a massive stretch. Neither can tackle at NRL level let alone being targeted by Inglis or Hess out wide in Origin. Moylan is playing like crap and shouldn't be anywhere near the discussion. Norman is QLD isn't he? So that leaves Green, Reynolds and Keary.
Maloney will be the first half picked and these days you wouldn't worry too much about selecting a 5/8 at half because what side of the field they play on is more important. Sezer is a much better defender than Maloney so having some of those other blokes (Brooks/Moses) who are speedbumps is crazy - Maloney is a liability in the defensive line, NSW would be crazy to pick a liability on both sides of the field. Keary has played 1 decent game this year. Reynolds and Green have been playing quite well.
6 to 8 was the claim AFGHTS. I won't leave the porch light on for you though given your track record of not backing up any of your comments with specific names.

Re: Melbourne Storm turn to Canberra Raiders Aidan Sezer for Cooper Cronk replacement
If you look at historically during the NRL era I reckon Raiders players are just not considered Origin material. We have very few picked and they have the shortest Origin careers on average by some margin. Partially that's due to the players but some are also dropped very quickly (Campo). The attitude to our players is totally different to clubs like thr Dogs and Dragons.

Come on, Sezer is no way origin material at this point
As stated, Cleary, Keary, Brooks, Moses, Green in that order all WELL above him in the pecking order. They don't pick halves based on defence, it is a playmaking role
And I don't understand why Cody Walker isn't more seriously considered, he's done more than all the above this year apart from maybe Cleary

It would be much easier to think of guys below Sezer in the pecking order: Chad Townsend (even that's arguable), Connor Watson, Lachlan Croker, Blake Austin, Matt Frawley. That's it
Re: Melbourne Storm turn to Canberra Raiders Aidan Sezer for Cooper Cronk replacement
I agree he probably isn't but that's less of a barrier at other clubs.

I agree that there are plenty of halves above Sezer for NSW, regardless of whether or not they play 5/8th or halfback at club level.Canberra Milk wrote: ↑May 9, 2018, 12:13 pm Come on, Sezer is no way origin material at this point

Re: Melbourne Storm turn to Canberra Raiders Aidan Sezer for Cooper Cronk replacement
I very much agree there's bias towards certain clubs. Saints seem to be particularly well liked, Parramatta, Roosters, Bulldogs, Manly, Souths. Next rung down probably Sharks, Tigers, Penrith... we're squarely at the bottom. Titans also struggle, James Roberts and Ryan James barely considered after strong seasons in recent times
Re: Melbourne Storm turn to Canberra Raiders Aidan Sezer for Cooper Cronk replacement
You think playmaking is more important in Origin than defence? I wouldn't have Brooks or Moses, in particular, anywhere near a Blue jersey. You might as well play Reece Robinson in the halves.Canberra Milk wrote: ↑May 9, 2018, 12:13 pm Come on, Sezer is no way origin material at this point

I mean, to be fair, going off recent history this is exactly what NSW selectors do.gergreg wrote: ↑May 9, 2018, 11:53 am I did mention 'available' players, so that immediately removes Pearce and Cleary at this point in time. Wouldn't surprise me if these rumors are true. NRL just posted an article discussing Munster to Cowboys next year. If that happens, Sezer to Melbourne will definitely be on the cards.
PS: I hope we are placing a bid for Munster if that is the case. He would be awesome at the Raiders.

Why would Munster come to us though? If he wants to leave the Storm due to Bellamy’s future being unsure, it means he cares who his coach is. To switch to Stuart could be absolute career suicide!

Wouldn't be upset if we traded Sezer for Ryley Jacks.
Probably dreaming a bit too much if I think Munster is a chance.

Re: Melbourne Storm turn to Canberra Raiders Aidan Sezer for Cooper Cronk replacement
We should be able to afford a million dollar player, which would get Munster.
Re: Melbourne Storm turn to Canberra Raiders Aidan Sezer for Cooper Cronk replacement
I agree. We've hardly had any picked over the years, and those that do usually last one game and get scape goated.edwahu wrote: ↑May 9, 2018, 11:59 am If you look at historically during the NRL era I reckon Raiders players are just not considered Origin material. Campo lasted one game, got dropped. Ryan O'Hara lasted 20 minutes, got dropped. Dugan (when a Raider) lasted one game and got dropped, yet upon leaving the Raiders became an immediate mainstay of the Blues. Ferguson lasted one game (when a Raider), and despite his numerous off-field issues is now also a mainstay of the Blues.
Other players like Finch, Monaghan, Weyman, Cross, etc only made the Blues side after leaving the Raiders if I recall correctly. Vaughan will be next in that list.
I know this is a bit "chicken little" paranoia, but I seriously think the NRL hate the Raiders. No matter how good our players are going, they either won't make the side until they play for another club, or if they do miraculously get picked they'll be the first out the door if the Blue lose.
Yet all the regular non-Raiders players keep getting picked every year, despite the years of failure.
