Sia Soliola committed to building Canberra Raiders future

Canberra Raiders spiritual leader Sia Soliola has reaffirmed his commitment to the Green Machine as the club builds a roster its hopes can end a premiership drought. Soliola has been linked to the Newcastle Knights, but his priority is contract discussions with the Raiders.

"It’s still a work in progress, but I’m pretty confident something will get sorted soon. It’s one of those things. I guess I see why people can see that link but my first and foremost is chats with the Raiders.

Gee he’s playing well this season, isn’t he? I thought last year he’d gone a season too long and needed to hang up the boots, but boy was I wrong!!

And I’m very, very happy to be wrong too!

Gotta love Sia. He's a very good person, a good leader, loyal. And he's been massive on field for us.

Apparently getting a six week suspension for knocking out Billy Slater can reinvent a player.

So when do we play Melbourne?

Well we was getting played in the edge more last year, where he struggled with lateral movement and not being a devastating ball runner (ala Papa at his best or Tapine with his steps and fends) or clever ball player (ala Whitehead).
And he was honestly off the pace in that spot last year.

But sees just ask him to lead the line, tackle hard, run hard and straight up the middle and he's been very good. Still drops the odd ball but without him we'd be much worse off this year I think. Yep, one more year.

Totally agree. He seems to lift the side when he's playing well, a real leader.

I said it in the scouting thread, but Im loving the way he is playing ATM. His aggression, and leading our D line forward has been awesome. It also cant be understated that him starting has allowed Ricky to split Jr and Boyd (FINALLY). Sad Jr is out long term.
