2019 Squad
Bits and pieces of discussion in multiple threads so here's a general one.
Back 5 - fairly settled.
The variable really is Wighton but I think with Oldfield, Ravalawa and Kris that's ok.
Halves - Only Hingano and Sammy currently signed?
Sezer priority.
Pack is the big one.
L Bateman, Lui sound like they will be here.
Sia on current form.
Tapine and Whitehead.
rumours on Sutton and J Bateman.
fringe guys Knight, Horsburgh, Guler, Hala, Murchie.
Hookers Hodgson and Havilii
I think we are a big prop, minutes prop short and maybe a 6.

Re: 2019 Squad
Definitely a 6 I'd say and either 2019 or 2020 we want to be signing a big fish if possible. Munster / Norman.
For wing, I said it in the other post, but I think if we are going the Oldfield route he needs genuine competition to push him and keep him honest. Ken Sio would not break the bank and has filled in well for newcastle. I like what I've seen from Ravalawa but he still needs more time in reggies.

Re: 2019 Squad
On top of our squad now, we need a power prop (I’d look overseas) and a minute eater that can defend.
I’d look to spend some very decent money on a 6.
Cotric
Croker
Wighton
Leilua
Rapana
$$$buy/Hingano
Sezer
Sia
Hodgson
Papalii
Whitehead
Tapine
Bateman
Havili
Knight

This team I could get around. I know Cotric has a way to go to prove he is a fullback but if we gave Wighton 6 years to see if he could do it, surely we have 1 to 2 to offer Cotric who is a sublime talent compared to ol Jack Wighton.
1. Cotric
2. Tonumaipea
3. Croker
4. Leilua
5. Rapana
6. Drinkwater
7. Sezer
8. Au Mau
9. Hodgson
10. Glasby
11. Tapine
12. Whitehead
13. Papalii
14. Havili
15. Lui
16. Bateman
17. Knight
Ideally we would have someone capable of first grade football over Bateman but we know he will be here as he is a priorhahahahahahaity sighahahahahning.

The forum needs more team lists, and less segments! It's a winning formula!
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

What has happened to halves being developed through our system? Has there just not been any with perceived first grade talent other than Cornish and Croker recently?

You're all forgetting Gubb. The club will definitely pick up the option if we lose Boyd and Paulo.

It's like the off season has started really early
Would have won Boogs - 2016, 2017, 2018
1 part green, 1 part machine
1 part green, 1 part machine
Re: 2019 Squad
We need a gun #6 and 1 or 2 big minute props. Maybe a utility. All good defenders. Easy
Re: 2019 Squad
The club seems to have scaled back this area of it's operations under the current regime. Or at least i hope it's that, the other answer is the **** hot guy we got to replace Hamo isn't fit to tie Hamo's shoes...Roger Kenworthy wrote: ↑May 3, 2018, 12:56 pm What has happened to halves being developed through our system? Either way, we have Kris and Murchie in the system who are long term kids. Both very promising... the rest with any hopes are ring ins like Roache and Guler who we've brought in.
It's a real concern for me. Doesn't seem to a pipeline bringing through the elite talents like Papalii, Milford, TPG, Dugan, Carney, Cotric...
Re: 2019 Squad
Yes, very concerning. It is sad for the game of rugby league in the region.

Tonumaipea is an absolutely terrible first choice winger. I'd much rather promote Oldfield than start Young.Captain Punish wrote:This team I could get around. 2019 Squad
Does anyone have an opinion on Hingano being our actual starting number 6 next year. Watching some old reply’s, he is pretty dynamic... might be a nice fit with Sezer
If I was Stuart I would be very tempted to play them together soon to test

I'm not expecting him to make it in firsts. The Warriors wouldn't have let him go otherwise.LastRaider wrote: ↑May 3, 2018, 8:41 pm Does anyone have an opinion on Hingano being our actual starting number 6 next year. Watching some old reply’s, he is pretty dynamic... might be a nice fit with Sezer

2019 Squad
We relied way too heavy on the development pipeline for too long and it only brought us heartbreak after heartbreak, it simply just doesn’t work anymore. If locals like Dugan, Cotric, Campo, Vaughn ect come though then hey great, but screw getting a Milford or TPJ just to leave at the first chance they get. Buy buy buy or get burnt Thank god we have no association with Souths Logan anymore that really did not work after The Broncos entered the comp and we held on to that for yyyyears. If anything we need our own Canberra region team in the ISC, it could also service the Riverina and all of the South Coast, give country kids a clearer pathway from under 20s to 1st grade, surely having a reserve team 3Pigman wrote:The club seems to have scaled back this area of it's operations under the current regime. Ah, might as well jump (Jump!) Might as well jump Go ahead an' jump (jump!) Go ahead and jump Ow oh, hey you! Who said that?
Re: 2019 Squad
Some of what you're saying is fair and valid, but just as we've previously relied too heavily on juniors, i fear we're swinging too much the other way. I know there is issues with Souths Logan, but id rather have a shot at guys like Papalii (who is still here btw), TPJ and Milford than not get a shot at them. If we go 1/3 and end up with an australian player, that's not the worst result!EVH wrote: ↑May 4, 2018, 9:43 pmWe relied way too heavy on the development pipeline for too long and it only brought us heartbreak after heartbreak, it simply just doesn’t work anymore. Agree that we need focus on local riverina kids, but you cant limit yourself and tbph it appears as if RL is ready to abandon the Riverina.
Re: 2019 Squad
Not much wrong with our current juniors imo. You don't see much of them because 20s is gone but its better than the crop Cotric was playing in.
Re: 2019 Squad
FTR TPJ was not from Souths Logan. He is a Newcastle junior although born in Ashfield, Sydney. But it was a shame when we gave him a FG opportunity he then chose to go to the Broncos.
I know we were developing a link with a Fiji squad to play in Australia. Does anyone know what happened to that?

Re: 2019 Squad
The Raiders have set up an Academy in Fiji. We’ve signed juniors this year, playing for Mounties.

I know nothing about him. I had to sacrifice a few unknowns to move cap elsewhere. You could easily swap things around so Gubb is not there.
It's why in my squad Wighton got the sack and we moved his salary around. Also why Oldfield is starting but there is an ok backup in Sio so they push each other for a spot.
