Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.
Like what exactly? Apart from not earning enough or growing enough to justify new people, what is the disincentive to hiring?
If you had to hire somebody off this forum?
I'd hire no one. You're all slackers that spend way too much time on internet forums.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate. John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.
And yes. I have had a couple of red wines. But nothing like when i caught up with GE last year. Now that's drinking!

Yes. Stopped me from falling over and was much appreciated!

And yes, I do realise the delicious irony of my comment.

For mine comes down to the business and the owners priorities. The company I work for if a store is consistently hitting a certain ratio of jobs to staff per hour we get a new staff member even if we’re handling it, the owner just doesn’t think it’s fair to us long term to be working that hard. Then you’ll have others like banks that look for ways to reduce staff (at the expense of service) just to increase record profits by even greater amounts.
I bow down to thee oh great Nickman, the wisest of the wise, your political adroitness is unsurpassed, your sagacity is unmatched, your wisdom shines through on this forum amongst us mere mortals as bright as your scalp under the light of a full moon, never shall I doubt your analytical prowess again. You are my hero, my lord, my savior, may you accept my offerings so you continue to bless us with your genius.
In a shock to absolutely nobody Cory Bernardi has described Muslim halal certifiers as 'cockroaches' who are running an extortion racket on the nation's food suppliers..

To certify something as Halal it costs money. You need people to audit and review credentials. Money needs to come from somewhere?
Companies who go through the process can sell to muslims in Australia and, far more importantly, export to some large islamic nations in our region!!
Either the government can establish an independent body to classify and certify all foods for Halal, Kosher, organic, gluten free fun free etc... or shut the **** up.
The language used is rude and abusive but from what I saw he wasn’t calling for a ban just transparency and regulating, is that a bad thing?

Agree all certifiers should be, do religious ones (including kosher) require it more though due to religious tax exemptions (lack of transparency) already in place?

I say yes.
Good chat Manbush. Thanks again.
Just to fact check, I had a look at the Kashrut Authority (ww.ka.org.au) website and they too charge for certification and ongoing Inspections.
So singling out Halal is compete race baiting garbage. But bringing all certification bodies to account is a solid idea.
Yeah I’ve heard people complain Halal certifiers charge more but when I’ve looked it has appeared to be roughly the same as Kosher certifiers.

From what I can gather Halal is more expensive for Abattoirs (but not by much) but cheaper for non-meat products.
Interesting 4corners tonight about Australia and Medicinal marijuana.
Lots of big players putting big money in and it seems with the hope that we will have full legalisation.
Only about 600 have it prescribed at the moment and that process seems to take at least 7 months which seems insane.
Greg Hunt talking up how he wants Australia to be the number one exporter or medical marijuana.
Although a problem seems to be the companies are struggling to find people that really know how to grow the stuff as people with a conviction aren't allowed to work in those facilities, however those with the convictions are the ones with the most knowledge.
Between drinking, snacks, and the occasional cigarette I probably have enough vices.
However, I am fully supportive of the decriminalisation and subsequent regulation of most recreational drugs (pretty much anything other than opiates).
People will seek them out regardless, we might as well ensure these drugs are safe and taxed. Destroy the 'business model' of growers, cooks and dealers and reduce the stigma and risk for end users.
It'll never happen because our society is full of pearl-clutching, hand-wringing 'think of the children' types who live and vote in accordance with their fun and pleasure is bad world view.
There's plenty of countries we can use as tests case regarding what happens with legalisation of marijuana.
I think possession should definitely be decriminalized, I think the ACT has it.
I also don't think making it legal would result in a much higher recreational usage.
In fact if you made it legal then ran ads featuring both Shorten and Turnbull talking how they are are now cool with people smoking it you'd probably see a sharp drop in users...
And you could still control usage in other ways. Many workplaces have 0.00% BAC policies and zero tolerance on drugs (even for desk jockies like me) and do random drug and alcohol testing even though alcohol consumption is legal. Nothing stopping these policies from being continued if use is legalised overall.
Will be keen to see Colorado and California 5 years from now and whether use rises, falls or remains steady.
The real impact for those US states will be less people having their lives ruined by Bull criminal records.
Well according to Michael Sukkar leftist socialist termites have infiltrated the Liberal party and are trying to take it over so it's his job to crush them....

There are lefties in the Liberal Party? **** you could have fooled me.
I bet some **** at a Victorian Liberal branch meeting went on the record saying low pressure systems cause cyclones and not 'the gays'
Schifty wrote:Pretty sure they think Pyne is a far left extremist purely because he isn't an Israel Folau level **** on social issues.
They probably wanted him expelled when he posted a selfie with Sarah Hanson Young.
Sort of like how Darren Chester faced a disendorsement motion when he had the audacity to say he was pro marriage equality....
Darren Chester would be deputy PM if he was more of a flog on social issues.
Onward christian soldiers in the Culture Wars.

Unfortunately that seems a prerequisite for Nats leadership.
Incredibly it seems McCormack is an even bigger **** than Joyce.
At least Barnaby stopped at saying gays would drive down cattle prices.
How are those prices going? Down since marriage equality?

BTW now that Barnaby is no longer a minister and is staying up late with the baby he has discovered twitter and taken a liking to tweeting stuff with zero self-awareness.
