They'd just be saving him to come back against the Eels next weekend.
No point risking him getting injured playing in the Mounties now.

Great win by Flegg, Panthers are super strong at that level and I believe were undefeated.

Think that's what the Mounties twitter said. Kennedy also out with a leg injury.

Yeah I wasn’t sure if it meant he was getting tested or he failed it.

Ridiculously... no. The Canberra Raiders Cup gets live streamed, but the NSWRL can't organise to have its leading competitions live streamed.

MATCH REPORT: Penrith Panthers upset Canberra Raiders affiliate Mounties in Aubrey Keech rout

The Penrith Panthers have returned to the Intrust Super Premiership NSW winners’ circle on the back of a 36-24 win over the Mounties, in the sides’ Round 5 clash at Aubrey Keech Reserve.

Not shaken by their Round 4 loss to Newtown, the Panthers made a blistering start to the match against the Mounties, running in three unanswered tries in quick succession to shoot out to a 14-0 lead.

Papa played the full 80, mainly in the middle. Hot conditions. Got lots of attention on all of his hit ups. Had more impact in the second half, had some footwork at the line. To be honest though he didn't really stand out, but he wasn't terrible either. You'd want him to really dominate before bringing him back up and he didn't dominate. In fact, Mounties were crushed in the middle and that was a big reason why they lost.

Meanwhile though, Brad Abbey looks good - dynamic runner and a big body. Murchie also looks good - reminds me of Barnett with less angry pills. Unfortunately Garvey's game finished early with the HIA but at Brookvale he was really effective out of dummy half.

Cheers. Love the idea of papa getting thrashed in the middle for 80 and earning his way back in. It's a shame they've got a bye this week.
Sounds like the middles had an off day. Probably thought it'd be a chance to slack off with a rep player in the side.
Missing Hunt and Knight wouldn't have helped either.

Ravalawa made panthers look pretty silly on that right edge.

2017 NSW Premiership Round 6: Mounties preview

Image

Mounties v Penrith Panthers
Saturday 14 April
Aubrey Keech Reserve
Jersey Flegg 3:00pm

Mounties have the bye this week in the NSW Premiership, but the Mounties Jersey Flegg team will be in action on Saturday afternoon at Aubrey Keech Reserve. With the Raiders playing on Saturday night, it would have been a great opportunity to stage the match at Canberra Stadium... but sadly that's not to be.

NSW Premiership last week: The ladder leading Mounties were upset by the Penrith Panthers, 36-22, in Round 5 and now drop to third place. Josh Papalii took his place in the team, but Blake Austin did not, with Raiders coach Ricky Stuart electing not to risk him - as the injury to Sam Williams on Thursday night meant that Austin would be needed in Round 6 in first grade. Papalii responded to his relegation to Mounties in the best way possible. He produced 182 metres gained from 17 runs, 78 post contact metres, four tackle breaks and 21 tackles.

The Panthers got off to a flying start, running in three unanswered tries to lead 14-0 after 17 minutes. Mounties hit back with tries to Brad Abbey and Mikaele Ravalawa in the first half, but still trailed by 20-10 at the half time break.

Mounties also made a mini-comeback in the second half, with two tries in the space of six minutes - to Tony Satini (60th minute) and Sitiveni Moceidreke (66th minute). That put the home team within striking distance of Penrith, with the Panthers leading by just 24-22. But Penrith finished more strongly, scoring a double in the final 10 minutes.

Mounties had 54 per cent possession and made more runs and fewer tackles than the Panthers. But Mounties were down on troops, with injuries in the first half to Craig Garvey and Jarrad Kennedy putting them out of the match. Mounties missed 34 tackles (25 for the Panthers) and conceded more line breaks (6-4) and running metres (1354m-1226m).

Jack Murchie (30) topped the tackle count for Mounties, followed by Emre Guler (29) and Sam Duggan (25). Papalii (182m) led the way in metres gained, followed by Brad Abbey (132m) and Emre Guler (120m).

Jersey Flegg: The Mounties Under 20s produced a very good 32-10 win over the previously undefeated Panthers in Round 5. The Panthers led 10-6 at half time, with Mounties sneaking in a try to Darby Medlyn just before the break. But it was all Mounties in the second half, with the Panthers kept scoreless. Halves Brendan O'Hagan and Lachlan Cooper, and lock Corey Horsburgh were heavily involved.

Mounties are now in third place on the ladder, with a 4 and 1 record so far this season. They meet the fifth placed Parramatta Eels - who have a LWLWW form line in the opening five matches. They defeated the last placed Sea Eagles 22-14 in their last outing. The Eels have a slightly better attacking record this season, averaging 23 points scored per match, compared with 21 for Mounties. Mounties have the better defensive record, conceding an average of just 13 points per match. But the Eels' defence is also good. They've conceded an average 15 points per match.

Mounties have named the same 17 that took the field in Round 5. Sebastian Kris was a late inclusion at centre last week, replacing Andre Niko - and Kris retains his place at centre for the clash with the Eels. Adam Rizk was another late inclusion at starting hooker in Round 5, with Kyle Paterson dropping to the bench. Rizk is named in the starting team again this week. Paterson takes the No. 14 jersey.

The Eels faced some disruptions to their line up in their last match, but players are set to return to regular spots this week. Tuimavave Afualo moves back to centre from second row, with Ethan Parry shifting to the wing in place of Michael Cheer. Joseph Taipari replaces last week's late inclusion, Jaeman Salmon at five eighth. Sean Keppie is named at starting prop, with Michael Tupou shifting back to lock. Dylan Clifford comes into the second row, and Jesse Cronin goes back to the bench. Austin Dias is included on the bench, with Pele Vaigalu and Bruce Wakeling dropping to the reserves.

The teams look to be fairly evenly matched, but Mounties are probably in better recent form. We'll tip the home team in a close one.

I've only seen one full game and highlights. Guler's numbers are very good. You can check the stats here:

https://www.nswrl.com.au/siteassets/com ... enrith.pdf

Watch for O'Hagan and Horsburgh in Jersey Flegg. They are doing some very good things.

It is beyond a joke that the NSWRL cannot put full matches on YouTube of all NSW Premiership and Jersey Flegg games... in 2018. Local competitions, Canberra, Illawarra, Newcastle... they're putting every game up on YouTube. We should be able to watch the games on line in this day and age.

Ravalawa is warming to the task. Made he's opposites look stupid a couple of times so far.
Roache I have no idea.
Murchie and Guler both look like future first graders.
Should see murchie on the bench sometime next year and Guler upgraded into the top 30.
Murchie is not a Cotric or a Tapine. He's not going to kill it when he comes in but he defends well and has a good offload. It'll take him a couple of extra years to look good but he seems like the type of player you can depend on.
This is only their first year against adults. They could explode out of the blocks early next season.
Each preseason seems much more significant at that age.

The fact we're asking underlines how poor it is that our lower grades almost never play in Canberra. It is more than poor.
