Melbourne Storm fullback Billy Slater '100 per cent capable' of playing beyond 2018

Melbourne Storm football manager Frank Ponissi has declared evergreen fullback Billy Slater physically '100 per cent capable' of playing on into a 18th season in 2019.

Twelve months ago a cloud well and truly hung over Slater's future as he made his way back from consecutive shoulder reconstructions, but that time out of the game could prove a blessing in disguise with the 34-year-old returning in stunning form last year and potentially extending his career beyond this season.

EDIT. The mole reported that a breaking story will be a huge black eye for rugby league yesterday, let’s just hope it’s not true and rugby league doesn’t get dragged through the mud again.

Yeah the story I think we’re all thinking of here is totally bogus, just some idiots on twitter talking. No proof to it whatsoever.

When The Mole goes to print, he’s pretty much spot on. Where he gets into trouble is his tweets, where he is far too speculative... He does have good contacts in the game.

The Lurker, however, seems to just make things up.

So the Mole tweeted the above then.

It's rather disgusting tbh, this type of print where you don't attach a name should be banned Imo.

Apparently Munster is on the outs with the Storm due to attitude and lifestyle choices according to an article on NRL.com. Ricky could set him straight

I would say Bellamy has a much better track record of getting players on the right track, and playing to potential than Sticky does.

Has anyone seen Sam Kasiano after 1 preseason down there!

I think NRL journo's are so bereft of any real scandals they are making them up these days. Got to sell those papers/get those clicks.

He always looks like that in preseason. The achievement will be if they can keep some of the weight off him during the season.

Chambers suspended for knee lift on Cook

Queensland centre Will Chambers has been warned to change his running style after being charged over a knee lift that left NSW hooker Damien Cook with a suspected sternum injury in Wednesday night's Holden State of Origin opener at the MCG.

The Melbourne star could have escaped suspension with an early guilty plea after being charged with grade one dangerous contact but he has not contested the charge and will sit out this week's clash with Brisbane.

Footy isn’t everything: Lessons to learn from Storm's departing Mormon

He marks the Broncos’ James "The Jet" Roberts in his final home game today, yet this is a minor challenge to one he faces for the next two years.

Storm utility back, Young Tonumaipea, will leave Melbourne in July to take up a Mormon ministry in Germany, leaving behind the only family, friends, following and work he has ever known.

Bellamy likely to choose Storm over Broncos by the weekend

Craig Bellamy is expected to end speculation about his future by the weekend in a move that will create a chain reaction in the coaching ranks.

Melbourne is the favourite to land Bellamy’s signature, hopeful the $5 million deal they have tabled will thwart overtures from the Broncos. Storm officials are more confident now of their chances than when Brisbane’s interest first became public, and a decision is expected well before Sunday’s clash with Newcastle.

Melbourne Storm star Cameron Munster re-signs to end 2023

Cameron Munster has sorted out his long term playing future, inking a monster deal with Melbourne until the end of 2023. In doing so, Munster will effectively help the club transition into a new era without the likes of Billy Slater (retired) and Cooper Cronk, who departed a year ago for the Sydney Roosters.
