The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Out of the 33 that played NYC this year, only 15 or thereabouts will likely be returning.

Hopefully some bolters will emerge from the trials.

Darby Medlyn signs with Canberra Raiders on two year deal

Parkes Spacemen young rugby league star, Darby Medlyn has signed a contract with the Canberra Raiders for the next two seasons. The Raiders wanted him to play in their SG Ball side this season, but he decided to stay at home and play in the Western Rams and most importantly turn out for the mighty Spaceman.

Thanks ALX22... Next week now!

Canberra Raiders junior representative teams announced next Thursday

The Canberra Raiders would like to advise that the Harold Matthews and SG Ball Cup Squads will now be announced on Thursday 26 October.

In an effort to better facilitate and work in with the Country Rugby League trial process we have decided to allow players to trial for both pathways before making any squad announcements. We would encourage all eligible players who are not already contracted to the Canberra Raiders to attend the Monaro and Riverina trials. When the Monaro and Riverina trial process is concluded we will announce the Junior Representative pre-season squads. We understand this will be done by mid next week.

Exciting times for the players... and good to see a lot of familiar names and surnames!

So for SG Ball, looks like Simon Woolford's son is named... thought he lived in Newcastle now though... Paul Martin's son maybe? Fairly common name. Gaffey... looks like we have two brothers in two grades ... I wonder if it is a relation of Nigel Gaffey? I presume Jerimiah Simbiken is Jed's brother. I presume Hayley Whatman is Harry's sister. Courtney Lee Picker... of the Pickers of Goulburn?

I always think it is great to see players come through from the families of former Raiders.

Would be good if AXL22 could clarify some of those!

Canberra Raiders seeking host families in 2018

The Canberra Raiders are seeking host families for junior representative players for the 2018 season.

The Canberra Raiders place a lot of emphasis on developing junior talent both locally and from our wider footprint. It is often the case that relocating young athletes to Canberra is part of the process and providing a stable and supportive home for them to come to is vital to their chances of succeeding.

Hard work pays off for Griffith youngsters

Five boys from Griffith had the experience of a lifetime when former Canberra Raider Nigel Plum brought them to Raiders Headquarters as part of a trip organised for the Clontarf Foundation.

Plum, who works with the foundation, organised the boys to come to Raiders HQ and said that they were thrilled with the experience.

Youngster Jordan Little signs three-year deal with Canberra Raiders

South City teenager Jordan Little is on the cusp of achieving his NRL dream after clinching a spot in the Canberra Raiders under 18 side. Little, 17, signed a three-year contract with the Raiders on Tuesday after impressing at a trial last month.

"It’s every kid’s dream," he said. "If you play rugby league, of course you want to make the NRL. It’s another step closer to where I want to be."

The cherry on top

After a massive season on the footy pitch playing for the Cherrypickers, seven local boys will strap on the boots again to play for the Riverina Bulls preliminary squads. As an extra cherry on top Harry Fitzpatrick and Ethan Newham have also been selected to run on the field for the Preliminary Canberra Raiders Under 16s Harold Matthews squad.

They will have a trial in Goulburn on December 8 against the Illawarra Steelers where the squad will be cut to the final team.
