The Phrase Connect Game!

Post by Grant »

Good morning Australia, and welcome to a fun and exciting new gameshow hosted by me, Grant! I realised my Family Feud thread for a few years back was a roaring success, but difficult to manage. That in mind, I scoured the universe, looking for a new game to host and came up with this pearler.

Connect the Phrase

I will start by giving you a category, and an opening phrase. You then take a word from the phrase in the previous post and post a new phrase. Any word in the previous phrase can be used for the new phrase. For instance, "keep up the good work" could be followed by "keep your fingers crossed," "as good as gold" or "all in a day's work."

Also, any variation on a word is acceptable. "Flight of fancy" can be followed by "flew the coop" or "off to a flying start."

When it’s a specific category, you must also reference where you got the phrase from.
The winner of the round will be the last unreplied post after 24 hours

To Start: The category is “Movies” and the opening phrase is “Let the games begin” (The Dark Knight Rises)

Great one Dibbers, it's on the board, and the game is away.

Seems to be a bit of a break, since it's been a while since there's been a response. We're going to go to commercials.
We'll be back after a few words from our sponsors. Don't go anywhere

Ok, and welcome back.
So the first day has passed and we have a clear winner. It’s DIBBERS! Congratulations bud, you have scored a point.

Now for the next round: The category is song lyric, and I’ll begin with “If I go crazy, will you still call me Superman?”

Shine on you crazy diamond
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

And we are back. Now before we went to commercials, Fui came in with “Stop right now, thank you very much”. Which is a Spice Girls classic isn’t it? I remember in my youth dancing around the streets to that song. Walkman blazing. Good times. So can anyone come up with a new lyric and take the lead away from Fui?

Waa waa wee waa things really are heating up ladies and gentlemen. A lot of asterisk bombs being dropped here. Might need to cut to commercials and let things simmer a bit.

Don’t touch that dial!

OMGoodness ladies and gentlemen, so many classic responses. Remember, this round ends when there’s been no response for 24 hours, so keep em coming!

Now GE, a little birdy has told me that you have an interesting story regarding Bruce Springsteen. Care to share?
