The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Sigh. 9/11 anniversary came an went without a murmur on the GH. We're severely lacking a conspiracy theorist nutjob these days.

Re: Press for truth
I was commenting on this on Facebook just yesterday... SO MANY people were coming out and saying that they saw the plane hit the Pentagon, or that their dad saw it happen from a nearby golf course, or whatever, and do you know the conspiracy theorist response to this??
"You're lying!"
"You're part of the cover-up!"
"The government is just paying you to say that!"
THIS is why you can't argue with conspiracy theorists, because any evidence to the contrary of their absolute BS theories is just part of the cover-up!

That was the one with your "Sheeple" comment??
Its quite funny. The conspiracy theorists all claim it was a missile yet there is not one single credible witness who claims to have actually seen a missile hit the Pentagon.

Yeah, that's it... and seriously, in my experience anyone who accuses the rest of the population of being "sheeple" usually turns out to be the most closed-minded idiot who will believe absolutely anything they read on the internet.Northern Raider wrote:That was the one with your "Sheeple" comment??

We had a moment's silence for it at the conference on Monday.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Yeah, that was the one. If you scroll through the comments there are so many people who say they either saw a plane hit the pentagon or know someone who did, and they were all met with the same "you're a liar!", "you're in on it, too!" vitriol I've come to expect from conspiracy theorists.-TW- wrote:Was that the one where the plane had to be rolling at ground level? The Nickman wrote:I was commenting on this on Facebook just yesterday... Re: Press for truth
Just that pic itself is flawed. Makes the assumption that the plane must be perfectly level at point of impact. None of the wack jobs seem to realise the tail of a plane tends to follow the nose.
Also saw somebody post an aerial shot of the clean up and said "anybody see a plane?" and claimed the image had subsequently been suppressed.
The photo was obviously taken well adder the event as there cranes all over the place and an entire operational camp set up around them. Plane wreckage would need to be cleared up first before any structural work started. Take a photo after this happens and it's pretty obvious you wouldn't see any plane. Unfortunately this type of logic takes a holiday for these folks.

That is my most favourite relaxation. Getting one of those conspiracy nutjobs who sidle up to you in strange situations and agreeing with them and then throwing a couple of extra bones to them they havent thought about yet. I love sending them on their way super excited about a new angle on their conspiracy.Pigman wrote:

Spoiler: The Earth is not flat.
But US rapper B.o.B. is crowd-funding the launch of satellites to see if he can get some evidence to the contrary.
The rapper, whose real name is Bobby Ray Simmons Jr, has been a vocal proponent of the Flat Earth theory - the claim the Earth is, in fact, a disc and not spherical.
Some proponents of the Flat Earth theory claim NASA employees guard the edge of the world to prevent people falling off.

Let’s say BoB gets enough money for satellites, successful launches them, and gets the photos of a NOT flat earth
What odds that he takes that in and is like “****, my bad, turns out the earth is round”
Verse
“What the ****, nasa hacked my satellite!”

There are always redacted sections in these reports, usually for Privacy reasons - i.e.. names of people documenting a report, and these redactions always give conspiracy theorists something to cling to. I think it is a little sad really. There are some things throughout history that deserve further investigation as they probably fail the 'pub test' then along comes flat earth and it just makes the wholeThe Nickman wrote:So who else tips that the JFK files come out and reveal absolutely nothing astonishing?
'conspiracy theory community' look like a bunch of nut jobs. Hmmm sounds like a good conspiracy theory in itself.
