I was cleaning my cupboard yesterday, given the painters have been through and there's lots of dust. My instant coffee jar had a use by date of 2004.
Tough choices were made

Yes or no?
Fair call.
I'm betting that the "instant coffee" was really a kilo of Kopi Luwak, digested by the finest Luwaks in Indonesia, hand fed Sato Nishiki cherries by the purist Japanese virgins, then picked by Monks imported to Indonesia and hand delivered to GE by Gandhi and Fidel Castro

Considering they're dead, that's some feat!
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

3 short blacks between 4 to 5 am then a nice macchiato take away on my way in to the prison, when I arrive at work I smash a 3 tablespoon maccona number 5 on the hour every hour till 9.00, that's the weekday , weekends are similar 3 short blacks at home between 7 to 8 then I'll brew myself with my pezzetti stove top flat whites for the next couple of hours.
This place is woke.

Yes or no?
I was thinking about it the other day. I still don't know.
I was leaning towards yes, because if I was in a situation where I relied on Mrs Fui to look after me 24/7, I wouldn't want to put her through that.
But if something happened to her, it would kill me to see it done to her and I would want to look after her.
I don't know.. I think I'm more on the no side, like 60/40. It's too grey for me.

Re: Yes or no?
For me it's more around the chronic pain/quality of life. If life isn't worth living for the person with no reasonable hope of cure I think that's where euthanasia comes in.Fuifui Bradbrad wrote:I was thinking about it the other day. I still don't know.

Yes or no?
Yeah I get that, and I agree with that, but I also feel it could be easily manipulated.
There was a couple on The Project who wanted to be euthanised when they were 80, because they didn't want to go into a home and have to wear incontinence pads. There were other reasons, but not health related, just that they didn't want to rely on others basically. That's not a valid reason, but then you would have to draw a very uncomfortable line in the sand

Re: Yes or no?
Yeah, it's a bloody tricky line to draw but I think it's worth it.
I imagine some system where say 3 randomly assigned doctors from a pool must review the case and sign-off. Then there'd be some machine learning analysis of the pool to look for anomalous doctors for review. Issue there is cost obviously.

Yes, as someone who has watched loved ones die slow and painful deaths who wanted an out but couldn't take one, it's their life to give up. A popular argument against is playing god yet we have no problem prolonging someone's life.Dr Zaius wrote:Euthanasia?

Re: Yes or no?
IMO this is an issue of personal autonomy. Sensible, strict regulations that balance personal autonomy and the basic human right to die have me firmly rusted to 'YES'
I also want dementia to be included as a terminal illness in any legislation. It's a cruel way to die and dementia suffers should be able to go out on their own terms.

Re: Yes or no?
Under strict conditions, definitely yes.
Watching the old man go out the way he did, no one should have to suffer like that. And watching my Mum try to keep it together during the process, no question about it, it should be allowed.
Like i said, there have to be strict criteria, and independent assessments, but 100% yes.

The biggest debate would be around exactly what these strict protections are.

Yes or no?
Maybe a bridge too far.
I think if the sufferer themselves are able to make a call (or who ever has power of attorney), they should be able to make a submission for euthanasia to the treating doctor, if that doctor agrees, it goes to the head of the department for review, if they agree, it goes to panel of independent doctors who review the case, once it clears them, you should be able to legally euthanise a patient. And the kpi from official submission to final decision by the independent board should 5 days
Don't know how feasible that is, or if im missing any glaring issue medically but I think a system like that should be in place
