I do not understand why it is "anything goes" with naming international squads. No requirements to name anything more than a squad, no positions identified, no deadline to do it by. The international board would do well to follow the NRL's new practices this season.
Re: 2017 Anzac Test: Teams and Game Day
Agreed, and how they can take players named in other squads, like Fifita for example, and play them elsewhere because of injuries to the initially named squad. Tonga is now down a player instead of Australia just selecting someone else.greeneyed wrote:I do not understand why it is "anything goes" with naming international squads. NAS is out injured with Elijah Taylor coming into the squad. Tapine must've run over Kearney's cat or something.

I wonder if it has anything to do with his temperament during the tiniest bit of niggleedwahu wrote:NAS is out injured with Elijah Taylor coming into the squad. Tapine must've run over Kearney's cat or something.

Probably. The Manly game would've cost him. Still, he played well in his previous tests and didn't show any issues with temperament that I recall.

Or he's been pretty bog ordinary bar the dogs game

Well to be fair he did sit out a couple of weeks. He looked good v the Cowboys and the Dogs and I think that had to do with him coming off the bench. Definitely more of an impact that way.

Tapine goes well but why does he go half pace to the line, skip then run again ?CJR wrote:Well to be fair he did sit out a couple of weeks. He looked good v the Cowboys and the Dogs and I think that had to do with him coming off the bench. Definitely more of an impact that way.

If he goes full bore will do way more damage, and maybe fire the others up.
We definitely arent hitting the defence with all guns blazing

He's making more metres per run than every other forward and has more tackle busts. Must be something to it.
If you want the why it's to make putting a momentum stopping hit on him more difficult as he's a moving target. If you're agile you can go the Tapine route or if you lean more towards sheer size and don't have as much choice you can go the Paulo route.

Other than Kangas v Kiwis I'll definitely be watching Samoa v Soapdodgers.
Should be a good game that one with plenty of Raider interest.

Kangaroos jersey shows how far St George Illawarra fullback Josh Dugan has come since Canberra Raiders days
Josh Dugan's Kangaroos jersey shows how far he has come since the last time he called Canberra Stadium home.
"I think he [Rapana] was actually on his Mormon mission when I was here. He's been playing some great footy and is the sort of guy you'd hate to play against, but love to play with. He'll be a handful on Friday night," he said.

Hope the Kiwis win and get Mal thinking about his loyalty selection plan........ It really defeats the purpose of players putting it in every week-end when he already has his team picked regardless of current form.....

Kangaroos v Kiwis preview
Australia and New Zealand will renew their rivalry on Friday with a much-anticipated clash in the nation's capital that pits the Kangaroos' tried and tested veterans against the Kiwis' rejigged, potent spine.
There's something about Cameron Smith-led teams lifting in milestone matches. On Friday, the Kangaroos skipper will become just the second player to feature in 50 Tests in the green and gold, and you can bet your bottom dollar his teammates will do everything in their power to make sure he celebrates the occasion with a win.

Junior Kangaroos v Junior Kiwis
GIO Stadium
Friday 3:15pm
The game's future stars take centre stage on Friday afternoon as the best young talent from Australia and New Zealand go toe-to-toe in a mouth-watering showdown in Canberra.
For the Kangaroos, Jaydn Su'A was man of the match in last year's fixture and was rewarded with four appearances for the Broncos. Sam Stone has become a regular in Newcastle's NRL side, with the 19-year-old breaking into the starting side in recent weeks. Lock forward Cam Murray has also found his way into first grade with the Rabbitohs and completes a formidable triumvirate of classy forwards who should be a cut above against their less-experienced rivals.

Canberra Raiders winger Jordan Rapana realises New Zealand dream to play on Canberra Stadium
Four years ago, Jordan Rapana wasn't even playing rugby league and watched his mates play in the 2013 Anzac Test.
"I remember when I first moved to Canberra in 2013, the Anzac Test was on that year and I met up with a few of the players there and would never have thought in another three or four years time that I'd be in their shoes playing in an Anzac Test in Canberra. It's crazy how times change and doors open, but I'm grateful and count my blessings.

Kiwi Raider Jordan Rapana embracing strange homecoming feeling for ANZAC Test in Canberra
When the Kiwis arrived in Canberra last night, it was a strange sort of homecoming for star winger Jordan Rapana. But as the only Raiders player in the national side, he'll be the enemy during the ANZAC Test tomorrow.
"If I'm lucky enough to get a few tries obviously that's a bonus but I just want to make sure Im’ limited in my errors and playing well," he said.
