Holden Cup Round 8 preview: Raiders v Sea Eagles

Round 8 kicks off with a battle between two teams separated by for and against after respective 3-4 starts to the Holden Cup season.

The Raiders scrapped their way to an 18-16 win over the winless Warriors to maintain their impressive record at GIO Stadium.

Manly snapped a four-game losing streak with a shock win at Pittwater Park headlined by a double to Bilal Maarbani who has made the most of his switch from fullback to the wing.

The Sea Eagles are yet to win on the road this season and that trend should continue on Friday.

Tip: Raiders by 8

Matt Scott set to make his debut for NYC Canberra Raiders

NOWRA-BOMADERRY Jets product Matt Scott will this week make his long awaited debut for the Canberra Raiders National Youth Competition team, when he runs onto the field against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.

"I was absolutely stoked when it was announced that I was making my debut - I couldn't stop smiling when I got told before training," Soctt said. "It means a lot to me to be finally making my under 20s debut and it’s been a goal of mine for some time. It demonstrates that all my hard work and commitment to training is paying off.

68th min Good defence from Canberra, they take Manly out over the sideline in the corner. And now there's a dust up... lots of pushing and shoving. And Manly end up with the penalty.

It's to no advantage... Manly knock on on an early tackle.

Very impressed with the goal kicking of right center Andre Niko. One classic from the touchline which he curled in 'Thurston' like. Seems to have a footballers instincts as well when he followed a grubber kick for a try. Although Jarred Tuite was named MOTM, Niko must have been up there along with Captain Kalani Going. None of the three are overly large, but they assess and play what is in front of them. Jack Murchie is another with talent. Hopefully they and others, will be developed through to FG in future seasons.
