Croker out injured, Hodgson stand in captain
Hodgson takes over the captaincy, Sezer the goal kicking and the new Pommie plays in the centres.
That's how I see it.

I didn't bother watching the "All stars" game but what kinda speed did Turner have, heard he's kinda slow.

Re: Croker out injured
I think the additional responsibility on the guys mentioned will do them a world of good.
Turner came over here hoping to crack the top side. Looks like he could be in the thick of it from the get go.

I wouldn't have a utility and would run with an extra forward. Especially considering we will be without Pauli and possibly Pappali in Rd 1. Both play big minutes which can be shared amongst an extra forward.Rick wrote:Which would have The Horse take up the utility spot

If a half is injured Whitehead gives us adequate cover. If an outside back is inured you move your bench backrow to the centres.

Re: Croker out injured
I'd have Austin as Captain to let Hodgson just play his role without the added responsibility, I'd obviously have Sezer take over goal kicking. I'd also consider putting Lee in the centres and Cotric to the wing (possibly swapping them in defense and offence if need be). JT as #14
Re: Croker out injured
The idea of 4 forwards on the bench is beyond stupid.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Re: Croker out injured
I'd like to see Sia or Hodgson captain, Cotric in the centres and Turner on the bench. I think it would be good for Cotric to get some exposure to FG early then go back to Mounties. Saying that, I think it's probably more likely we'll see Turner at centre for his experience since we have a couple of really tough games to start the season.

Re: Croker out injured
Horrible to see any type of injury in a pre-season match let alone the Captain. Josh Hodgson is an International and calls a lot of the shots in the middle anyway from dummy half. I'd look to have him as Captain. Sezer the goal kicker. I would expect Turner to go to left center as this involves only one, player for player, swap and no other positional changes. Sticky much closer to how the players have gone in the pre-season training and outside backs will be expected to play the full 80. A far less than ideal start to season 2017.

6 weeks is the prognosis. Which means 3 weeks of the comp? Not too bad.

Canberra Raiders Jarrod Croker out for 4-6 weeks with dislocated knee cap injury
CANBERRA skipper Jarrod Croker is looking at an extended period off the pitch as a result of a nasty knee injury suffered in the Indigenous All Stars game.
Last night All Stars coach Mal Meninga said the early prognosis was that he had escaped ligament damage and was hopeful he would not spend any time on the sideline, however, Croker dashed the hopes of Canberra fans with an injury update via Twitter Saturday afternoon.

Re: Croker out injured
I agree - 4 forward bench could be the way to go. Turner starts in centres, if a half or Hodgo goes down, he moves out and Sia or Whitehead moves to centre. Hodgo is an 80 min hooker..RTW wrote:I wouldn't have a utility and would run with an extra forward. Especially considering we will be without Pauli and possibly Pappali in Rd 1. The question is who are the bench forwards for Round 1 whilst Paulo, Croker and potentially Taylor are out?

Got ya sums wrong there PJ ... 4 weeks takes us to home game against sharkies.-PJ- wrote:Well I'll take 4 weeks, and with rehab he'll be in Townsville ready to play....
I think Raiders will take the 6 week option considering he's had an injury to the same knee in September last year. I'm thinking he'll be back Rnd 4.
I don't post facts

Re: Croker out injured
I wouldn't be moving Whitehead at all, his combination with Leilua and Rapana gives us the best right edge in the game. There's no need to rush him back before his expected return of round 3-4, its a long season and as long as we are healthy come finals time we will still be competing for a premiership. I'd have Sia in as his replacement because we will need his experience against a few good teams in the opening rounds and Bateman should be our starting lock moving forward.

Cotric for mine if it is only for a few games. Blood him early in the season and if he is needed later on he has that bit of experience already.

Re: Croker out injured
It's a one for one swap.
With as little disruption as possible.
Give Cotric the spot of move Eddie in and throw Cotric on the wing.
Where's Brenko during these times ?

Cotric straight in. Seems a bit strange to move Eddie (who is on thin ice btw) out of position so we can bring in a kid to also play out of position. Great opportunity for Cotric. Looks like a kid that will take it with both hands.

Whilst my preference would be to see how Cotric goes, surely this is why we brought in Turner? I'd be pretty surprised if it wasn't him.
In saying that, I'm hoping that Croker only misses the first game and will be back for the Sharks.

Croker has had a strange run of injuries. The bloke is fine all year round but succumbs to injury in finals games and now this BS "All star Game"
WHAT A LONG STRANGE TRIP IT'S BEEN
Re: Croker out injured
Chucking Cotric in the deep end against the sharks and cowboys is a fair ask. He hasn't even played a senior level game before.

Re: Croker out injured
If Turner has been primed to be the Baptist replacement and play the role of the utility off the bench and JC is only going to miss 2-3 games then I would go Cotric however...
If we were going to go horse off the bench or another option outside of Turner than I'll go Turner to fill in as that's why we got him.
Outside the would anyone consider (given its 2-3 games) promoting Rapana to centre and chucking Cotric outside of BJ?

Canberra Raiders captain Jarrod Croker to miss opening rounds of NRL season after All Stars knee injury
The Canberra Raiders will miss Jarrod Croker's leadership, but former Green Machine captain Alan Tongue is confident they have the experience to cover his absence in the opening rounds of the NRL season.
"Sia jumps out to me straight away, even though he mightn't be playing 80 minutes, but I know he's got so much respect across the board there," Tongue said. "I talk of Josh Hodgson there, but I think Sia's the one that stands out to me."
