Sensational song. Eskimo Joe are highly underratedBegbie wrote:I just thought of another. From the sea, Eskimo joe.
INXS wins though. Need You Tonight or Never Tear us Apart. By My Side is up there too
Don't Dream its Over is brilliant too.

By my side was played at my wedding. Love the song, it's too short though.

Yep, he got addicted to smack back in the 70s and didn't sort himself. They wheeled him out about 10 years ago to play in those concerts but he is and has long been a defeated man. Still doesn't detract from what he was and what he did for our music industry.Gerg wrote:Begbie wrote:Yeah, easybeats hands down best aussie band of all time. Have to agree with Friday on my Mind by the Easybeats. She's So Fine is also a great Easybeats song.
Thunderstruck, Shook Me All Night Long and High Voltage - AC/DC were also faves growing up.
Evie - Stevie Wright
Beds are Burning and US Forces - The Oils
Never Tear Us Apart - INXS
These Days and My Happiness - Powderfinger
Better Be Home Soon and Don’t Dream It’s Over – Crowded House
Khe Sanh – Cold Chisel (not really a personal fave, but it's pretty iconic)
Throw Your Arms Around Me and True Tears of Joy - H&C

Stevie Wright was living in Narooma for years. Not sure if he's still there, but these days he's well beyond performing. Sad story really.Begbie wrote:Yep, he got addicted to smack back in the 70s and didn't sort himself. I was only 19 - Redgum
And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda - Eric Bogle
To Her Door - Paul Kelly
Berlin Chair - You Am I
I think Gotye's big singled and One Crowded Hour will be remembered fondly in the future too.
song I think it was no 1 in the hottest 100 but it was by augie March
The redgum song is actually titled a walk in the light green. Good list btw. I would include friday on my mind , the real thing and probably a men at work song.

Some crackers there, just add a couple if they didn't get overly flogged by the radio would probably be more popular.Begbie wrote:julian87 wrote:Johnny Ringo wrote:One crowded hour....Greatjulian87 wrote:Tried to make a really short list but I just can't, would probably come from this lot for mine

Were clips ever better before or since that era? I don't think so myself. That clip is a classic, it's art.

I just thought of another, reckless, Australian crawl.
Re: Best Australian song ever
That's a great song. James Reyne has a great voice and it makes the song.
Re: Best Australian song ever
Reckless....damn, that was a fine song. Soundtrack to a sharehouse I had back at uni.
Speaking of which, I saw Midnight Oil at the Uni bar. One of the best nights ever.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

It's a good song but it's not uniquely Australian.bonehead wrote:Never tear us apart, get shivers hearing that sometimes
That's where something like "Cattle and Cane" or "To Her Door" comes into contention...
