So I just finished Tom Jones autobiography.

It doesn't have the drug fueled excess of the recent guns n roses or Rod Stewart books but it is still a fantastic story of ridiculous wealth and debauchery.

He is actually a hard **** welsh coal miners son and the book is laugh out loud funny.

From his description of meeting Prince in the street dressed as a pirate and waving a white hanky, well maybe he made up the bit about a white hanky but he should have been, the whole underpants thing and his Vegas days with Elvis.

He talks about when he was doing duets with people like art of noise and he was asked about recording with some hard core hip hop band in LA, he turns up and he's having a drink in a bar with these do-rag wearing Crips and some girll walks up, ignores the gangsters and says excuse me Tom would you like to see my new clitoris piercing. Tom being Tom says yes and she proceeds to show him.

From that day forward he was known in the hip hop community as the bloke who has girls walk up to him and show him their pussy.

The book is a fantastic ride, highly recommended.

I'm in, sounds great. I love music biographies. I'm about two thirds through the new Peter Guralnick book on Sam Phillips of Sun Studio fame.

Yeh you would love it mate,

He's a soul/blues man at heart and at various times has been both the daggiest and coolest man on the planet.

Lots of stories about people like Wilson picket, stevie wonder, Ray Charles, early elvis, sammy Davis Jr.

All when they were at the top of their game.

Hated the doors though, "flat mid range singer with that stupid organ twiddling away", he's a hard man.

Some of those massive rock stars that are putting out books now it's like they packed 10 lives into one lifetime and spent the whole time taking the piss via some big massive inside joke.

Read the autbiography of the country singer/boozehound George Jones over Christmas - he's a total maniac, who attempts to maintain his very worst behaviour never happened whilst referring to blackouts constantly.

To be fair Angus is AC/DC, and has been for a long time.

I understand Mal had a massive input on the amount of writing, I'm more saying its Angus now the hits have been written. Your average punter doesn't give a hoot about Mal, Angus is the one they talk about down at the pub after the show. Brian is great, no doubt, but Bon was an absolute legend as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Brian was ever really allowed to write much? I seem to remember reading a book on them that after Bons passing Angus and Mal took it upon themselves to write the lyrics as well as the music?

I believe you are misled, angus is the riff master but johnson wrote quite a few signature tracks mal young was very much the man when it came to writing.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categor ... an_Johnson

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categor ... colm_Young

I had a recording of an interview with angus where he said he would just sit and practice his scales and riffs then mal would write something to go with whatever he came up with.

Still I'll go see them every chance i get, would love them to play hope estate pokolbin, was a big enough venue for Springsteen, eagles and the stones

Yeh it is, Malcolm ran ac/dc, it was his band.

Vanda and young from the easybeats put it together though, they learnt a harsh lesson when the easybeats went to London and changed their style to suit the fashion of the day and tanked.

The decided that wouldn't happen with acdc and 40 years later they are still kicking around

SB's right - Malcolm Young is the real reason ACDC sounds like ACDC, Angus goes widdly widdly over the top, those chunky riffs are Malcolm's job. I loved ACDC with Bon, Brian not so much, although they were good fun live and I'm happy for them all to continue and do their thing. Axl though? he's a loon is he not? seems like a strange internet rumour to me.

Malcolm Young is/was the man behind AC/DCs tunes. Yeah sure Angus was up front choking the life out his guitar wearing the schoolboy outfit but Malcolm's the man.

What a great band.

Axl can pierce off.

Yep, agreed with the sentiment here by many.

I've been an AC/DC fan since I was five years old and Malcolm Young was the true genius behind the band

Reports that Prince has died.

Never really a fan but there is no doubt he was an extremely talented guy. As I get older I'm really appreciating the impact all 'artists' have on millions of people's lives and the amazing legacy they leave behind.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Damn shame, a true musical legend. Singing, writing through to playing 20 plus musical instruments, one of a kind. If I could have the musical talent of anyone past or present, would be hard to go past Prince for overall talent.

I bow down to thee oh great Nickman, the wisest of the wise, your political adroitness is unsurpassed, your sagacity is unmatched, your wisdom shines through on this forum amongst us mere mortals as bright as your scalp under the light of a full moon, never shall I doubt your analytical prowess again. You are my hero, my lord, my savior, may you accept my offerings so you continue to bless us with your genius.

I was just watching Music Max, which is of course GE's favourite music channel. This came on, and I'm thinking... That was 1991! Really?

I'm thinking... Why didn't he keep singing?

Then I look up how old Daryl Braithwaite is... And he's 67! 67!

What a world! What happened to the years?
