Well I'm warming a bar stool at Brisbane airport. My flight to HK is delayed and I'll miss my connecting flight and possibly my tour. I don't get a lot of holidays. Not thrilled by this.

Some hydraulic leak which they managed to fix but took hours. Missed my connecting flight, but got put on a later one. Five hour wait in HK though. Then that plane was delayed 1.5 hours, no idea why. **** long journey

Mate, I hope you are not going before their "summer" which is usually held over three days in late June. I've been to Helsinki in summer and it was exactly the same as Bruce stadium in mid winter, just a lot more drunks especially among the girls.
Pretty place though if you've rugged up enough and the people are mostly friendly if unduly depressed by our standards.

Thanks for the advice, I had a feeling it would be like that and opted out of attending Juhannus. I wanted to experience Vappu in may however, really wanted to try sima. So we'll be heading over first month of spring, will be very cold still however I am dieing to see everything burst into life from the snow (there will be at least a week spent in lapland across finland, sweden and norway)

Once chaperoned a Finnish electronics CEO over here signing on to be one of our suppliers mid June a few years back.
Picked him up at the airport and he says "I was told southern hemisphere is opposite seasons, i was told you were in winter". Was about 15degrees lol

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Hbomb is that where you intended to be?
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Any Sydney people around.

My daughter is starting a masters degree at uni of Sydney, Cumberland campus.

We are looking at accomodation in Leichardt, is that suburb ok or should we look at Homebush itself ?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated as well

I haven't lived in either suburb but my understanding is Leicardt is a much nicer area than Homebush, and being just over the Anzac Bridge much easier acces to the city.

Leichhardt is a good place
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Lidcombe is alright, but it just doesn't have the amenity that Leichhardt has. Lidcombe is on a railway line versus Leichhardt very close to the city, etc. Is Leichhardt on the new inner west tram line? I used to live in Leichhardt yonks ago and found it good and its only gotten better I believe.

I went to Cumbo. Lidcombe is awful. Probably with Cumbo also is access with limited parking, though that may have changed.

Its been a while since I lived in Sydney, so things may have changed. I'm pretty sure that Lidcombe hasn't though. How is she planning on getting there? A lot of people at Cumbo live either out west around Parra (I lived in Westmead), or along the train line towards the city - Strathfield, Burwood etc. Newtown might be worth a look. Very cool place to live, on the trainline, 20 min trip I'd estimate.
