The Greenhouse - 10 years strong

Image

January 6 marks the tenth birthday of The Greenhouse, and we now enter our 11th season as still the biggest and best Canberra Raiders supporters site on the net!

We say it every year, but it's true... it's been another huge year for The Greenhouse. We have 2,700 members of the forum, over 20,000 followers on Facebook and over 3,500 on twitter. On all our social media platforms, including Instagram and Pinterest, we have more than 32,000 followers.

Whenever big news breaks, it is The Greenhouse the supporters come to. And whenever people want to know what Raiders fans are thinking, it is The Greenhouse they come to.

It's all thanks to you, the members and followers of the site.

But two people, Nick and Ed, deserve singling out, as the founders of the site. Without them, none of it would have been possible. Thanks to them both.

We promise to get bigger and better in 2015. Hopefully it's a premiership winning season!

The Greenhouse Team

Who could have imagined what this site would turn into when it started off a breakaway group on Proboards.

Well done to all.

Tremendous site fellas huge congrats to all involved in keeping it together. May be slightly over moderated but I guess that keeps the flame wars low key. Thumbs up for another 10 years.

There's one reason and one reason alone that TheGH has grown to be such a substantial supporter site as it is now, and that is the hard work and vision of our GE.

While as users we don't see very much of the time and money he has invested in this site, both are very substantial. While it's obviously a labour of love, that in no way diminishes the amount that GE has contributed to getting this awesome little community to where it is today. Certainly, my life would be infinitely more productive without the hours spent trolling around here, but God knows I'd miss the place.

So while I will be back to making his life difficult with inappropriate posting by this time tomorrow, on the occasion of our 10th birthday I think it's worth to pause and on behalf of everyone say a big thank you to the man himself, Greeneyed.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

This site has grown into the best Raiders site. If I want to know whats happening this is the place I come to.

Thanks to the founders R69 and ED who got it off the ground and to GE who has grown this site into what it is today and continues to grow it. The amount of time and effort he puts in can not be underestimated.

Thank you

To everyone who contributes , thank you also , we all have our opinions and they vary over the full scale , but we are what make this site interesting.

Stu was in Canada at one point.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Nickman, you were not the first person on The GH to post often and about nothing. The Chat thread: http://www.thegh.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2218

In those days, they did it only in The Lime Lounge. Or so we hoped.
