Something mentioned on QI re: Forum moderation

Hey Mods,
I was watching QI the other night (Guilty pleasure of mine, don't judge) anyway one of the facts that they mentioned was that it was a universal rule when it came to moderating a forum that anytime someone uses Hitler or the Nazis as a defence, then the thread is closed and the debate is over.

For example:
Bipolar Bear and I are having a debate on whether or not it is acceptable to keep Turtles as pets. BPB is against it, while I am for the idea. If BPB made a comment like "Well, Hitler had a turtle, therefore owning turtles is wrong." The thread would be locked, and the debate over.

They said it's because in this case, BPB resorted to this argument, which is in bad taste and stupid, that he admitted defeat.

My Question: Is this true?

It's not true here, but we may delete the reference, depending on what's said. It therefore cannot be a universal rule.
