I like that Simo isn’t just waltzing back into the team.

He really is an interesting one in that 3 seasons whilst he hasn’t done anything to be considered a liability, he certainly hasn’t at any point demanded selection through irresistible displays.

Until you demand selection you can’t really be considered more than a placeholder.

I think the likes of Savage, Timoko and HSS have looked like they deserve the chance to nail down starting positions. Whether that is at the expense of Simo, well that is up to Simo alone.

Couldn't agree more. Bailey played well as a fullback against Brisbane but then didn't go as well against GC and St George. He, like others, have to show form to get back into the side. He is pacy but as a winger hasn't showed it and doesn't take the hit ups like Semi (and last week HSS). His mistake rate is generally lower than Semi but did have a some brain explosions before trying to throw ridiculous passes - the Warriors game was an example but was saved by a penalty.

How does someone show form good enough to get back into the side with no reserve grade?

I know Elliot is returning from injury but I reckon he needs to show a bit soon. CHN and Young have been doing a job recently and Whitehead has been off his best.

It's a great point Zim. I reckon Sticky will be looking to rest anyone who has an injury which they would normally needle and allow to play. He has to get some match fitness into them somehow and I reckon we will see a bit of squad rotation going on. Difficulty with that is the combinations become a bit lost. I understand each Club squad in Qld has 30 players and 11 staff (happy to be corrected on that).

Tom Starling and Josh Hodgson have become the Canberra Raiders' odd couple

Tom Starling and Josh Hodgson have formed one of the NRL's most unique partnerships on and off the field, and the combination is starting to reap some serious dividends.

"He [Stuart] pulls the trigger on me when he thinks that we need a bit of energy and that's my role in the team," Starling said.

Whitehead glad to remain a Raider as Starling soaks up expert advice

Elliott Whitehead is delighted to have extended his time at Canberra while Tom Starling feels lucky to soak up dummy-half tips from "two of the best nines to do it".

"We've played great over the last three weeks and we need to back up again, it's a big game against Newcastle and we want to push for the finals. This is a game that we need to win," Whitehead said.

Really makes you appreciate the sacrifice that the Warriors players have given over the last year and change.

And also makes you even more furious at the Dragons players, Korisau and Arrow. And annoyed at their pathetic tap-on-the-wrist punishments.
And to all the people who doubted me, hello to them as well. - Mark Webber, Raiders Ballboy and Unluckiest F1 Driver Ever

I'm attacking in the right way, instead of just...attacking in the general direction. - Max Aaron (also eerily apropos for the Green Machine)

cannot be understated.

How cool having Adam Sandler do the media work for the club, covid has obviously hit him hard.

There's been no formal announcement, there were reports the club was expecting he'd clear concussion protocols early this week; he was not put on the official injury list.

I'm shocked he failed that HIA, not often they jog off joking with the trainer then fail but glad he got protected from himself and we won.

That's a big big win for us, no Pearce. We basically just have to look after Ponga and Best (easier said than done) and we should have their measure

Great news about Pearce. Crossland actually scored and had some impact in Round 9 against us, but he did look limited last week. Would love to see Jack running at him early and often.

I think the protocols include a proviso that if a player does lose consciousness, however briefly- and Papa was stone cold for a few seconds- then the HIA is irrelevant, the on ground doctors have to rule him out on the video.

Pressure on Pearce-less Knights as Canberra Raiders raise standards

They might both be in a battle for the NRL top eight, but Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart says the pressure is all on the Newcastle Knights ahead of their clash at Lang Park on Saturday.

"They'll be a very hungry team [Saturday] night. I've heard they've had some pretty deep and meaningful discussions through the week and they'll be a very motivated football team. But I just feel the pressure is on them. It's not on my team.

Canberra Raiders inspired Olympic rowing gold inspires Raiders

The Green Machine helped inspire Australia's men's four to golden glory on Wednesday, with the chant of "Raiders" driving the rowers to the top of the podium over the final 100 metres. Now the Raiders were drawing inspiration from the quartet.

"Just to have the four boys using the Raiders as a little bit of inspiration in their last couple of hundred metres was lovely to hear," Ricky Stuart said.

Jarrod Croker set to 'gobble up' Hazem El Masri with Cameron Smith the next target in sight

He should gobble up Hazem El Masri' point scoring record in the next year or so. But whether Jarrod Croker can catch the No. 1, Cameron Smith? Johnathan Thurston's a maybe.

"If he stays injury free he'll gobble up Hazem in the next season or two, then it's just Smithy after that. He'll need all those seasons to catch Smithy, but I'm pretty sure he'll gobble up Hazem in the next couple of years," Thurston said.
