Sharks tell Shaun Johnson, Aaron Woods, Josh Dugan they’re free to leave
Cronulla has continued its roster shake-up by telling three former international stars Shaun Johnson, Aaron Woods and Josh Dugan there is no place for them at the Sharks.
There is strong mail that the Canberra Raiders are ready to pounce on Johnson as a replacement for recently departed half-back George Williams.

Three big-name Sharks set to exit as Cronulla plan roster overhaul
Cronulla have told star trio Shaun Johnson, Josh Dugan and Aaron Woods they will not be offered contract extensions at the club as the club's chequebook goes towards a scrum base partner for Nicho Hynes and backline reinforcements.

He's the best one of all options available.

Re: Canberra Raiders reportedly interested in Sharks half Shaun Johnson
I'm a bit torn on this one. Injury prone but a genuine star halfback when he's on the field, for a team struggling with its attack he's a great option. I just can't see him moving to Canberra to play football, happy to be proven wrong though and would definitely take him for 2 years at $1.2 million or something close to that.
Re: Canberra Raiders reportedly interested in Sharks half Shaun Johnson
Does Jason Smith has a season in him?
Re: Canberra Raiders reportedly interested in Sharks half Shaun Johnson
I’m all for it but also realize you’re more likely to get 20 games over 2 years than 40 plus as an injury prone 31 year old playing in the coldest NRL region.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: Canberra Raiders reportedly interested in Sharks half Shaun Johnson
Probably the only real option left.
Re: Canberra Raiders reportedly interested in Sharks half Shaun Johnson
I'd be stoked if we got him. But like others have said, he has been on record saying how much he hates Canberra. But if we can make it work he be a massive improvement on George
Re: Canberra Raiders reportedly interested in Sharks half Shaun Johnson
Didn't he bag out Canberra when in town for the Kiwi test?

Re: Canberra Raiders reportedly interested in Sharks half Shaun Johnson
Big gamble if we get him and im sure he would prefer to stay in sydney but clearly the best option for us if he gets anywhere near last years form.(and every available half is at least as much of a gamble)
Goal kicker
Natural Right side half(pretty sure he had a decent combo with CHN in one of the test series.
Best attacking half available(topped tthe try assists last year while only playing part of the season. Should suit the new rules even more now. Also had a heap of forced drop outs.
Makes players outside him better. Fusitua was one of the best wingers outside him. Katoa scored a stack of tries(16) outside him last year.
Has hardly ever played behind a top forward pack so if ours gets its **** together it should be good times

We have the best pack in the comp. 5 finals games in 10 years. Has trashed Canberra in the past.
Not quite sure why we'd take the gamble on him tbh. The returns aren't really there on the wrong side of 30.

To be fair he played in some horrible warriors teams under very average coaches(mclennan, Elliott, kearney).Roger Kenworthy wrote: ↑June 3, 2021, 7:32 pm 5 finals games in 10 years. Has trashed Canberra in the past.

There forward packs were usually pretty horrendous as were his other spine members bar RTS in his last couple of years
Re: Canberra Raiders reportedly interested in Sharks half Shaun Johnson
I'm not sure if he's a right fit for the team. Jack is a running half. The team needs an organising half.

I hope we land him. He was my number one choice taking into account realistic options.

SJ is basically an organiser / dinner suit halfback these days
My more concern is that he doesn't have a massive will to win. I don't think he's lazy, I think that's a misconception but I do think he's laid back. Sticky is the opposite of laid back so I'm not sure if he's a Sticky type player, they might clash
Still, I would take him at the right price, every day

Well I hope we re-sign Sam Williams or keep Frawley if we sign Johnson, we’re going to need them.

Not a huge fan of this decision for reasons already listed, but also as others have mentioned he's probably the best available.

Shaun Johnson open to a move to Canberra Raiders
The Canberra Times is reporting it is “believed” the Raiders are not interested in Shaun Johnson, but Johnson’s manager is quoted as saying Johnson is open to a move to Canberra.
"Shaun's exploring his options and if it's a fit with Canberra he'd certainly look at it," Johnson's manager Peter Brown said.

One of the most talented players to have delivered nothing in his career.
Let's see how this plays out.

Yep, this is me too
Probably the best of a bad bunch of options and feels like we'd be lucky to get 25 games out of him over 2-3 years.
Ugh
I wont be super excited to sign him, i wont be super disappointed if we dont.... just kind of... OK? I guess we'll see how it goes?

Certainly had a few injuries but i think tgey are being exagerated a touch.
His worst season injury wise(last year) he still played 16 games (and topped the comp in try assists...)

If it weren't for the Canberra comments I would be lukewarm.
But I am not interested in taking on anymore players with red flags and potential attitude problems. Let alone an injury riddled 31 year old.
He would probably get homesick for Cronulla or Auckland or something 12 months into a 2 year contract anyway.

Would a Johnson + Dufty combo deal give us the spark we need? Both players have their cons but also provide an x factor we are sorely missing.
We blood some young guys as well and 2022 could look a little more optimistic.

People forget just how undesirable Canberra is. Beggars can’t be choosers so if their both willing to come, we need to jump on them

I don't mind this if the price is right. I would rather wait til November and have a crack at Harris-Tavita though.

Not sure about that.
Never been an organising half and relies on his speed, which diminished after his injuries...
I’d be very cautious about what could be Orford 2.0

We’re not competing for the comp next year so why blow cap space on a washed up guy who claimed he wouldn’t like to live in Canberra...
Reeks of desperation...not to mention he is exactly what people criticised George for...not a game manager...
