Canberra Raiders miss out on Nicho Hynes

Post by greeneyed »

Canberra Raiders eye Nicho Hynes

Canberra are weighing up whether to join the race for Melbourne’s rising star Nicho Hynes after the club outlined the frustrations that led to the sudden axing of English halfback George Williams.

With Canberra’s finals hopes fading after just one win in their past seven matches, the Raiders are also looking beyond this season in the search for a replacement playmaker and Hynes has emerged as a possible target.

This is a no brainer. Far more enthusiastic at this than Dufty.

Weighing up is a cover up for the club trying to be discreet about their business... we are all in on Hynes!

I think I'd play Hynes at 7 next year if we signed him.

This would be such a win from both an on field and off field perspective. He's hardly asking for a ton of money either

With the amount of other clubs interested I'd say our chances of landing this one is about 0 to none.

We need to get Hynes as the No. 1 priority. For No. 1. We should be going all out. Then we need the best organising half we can afford - recognising that there aren't a lot of options. We need to keep options open there, whoever is signed... unless a left field player becomes available. We desperately need some organisation and ball playing in the spine.

It's because he is a man of appetite.
He has walked the desert of the hole runner with Dugan first and now CNK. He longs for the ball playing fullback and is willing to forsake us all to attain it.
He's thirsty is what I'm trying to say.

Not as enthused as some about Hynes, but I'd take him over silly Dufty.

I would have been very confident in signing him 8 weeks ago... I feel like the broncos are a more appealing option at the moment. I hope Bellamy puts in a good word for us.

Official NRL profile for Nicho Hines

Nicho continued his progress with Storm by making the grand final 17 in 2020. He is a keen surfer and...

There is virtually zero chance we will get Hines. Players in high demand command high wages, sometimes exceeding their value, and prefer the lifestyle flexibility of the big smoke.

We are better off chasing value buys with significant upside, and basically positioning ourselves as the best development club in the NRL.

Does that rule the Broncos out then? Brisbane is actually a fair trek to the nearest surf beach.

Unless he lives at/near the GC and drives to Brisbane. Stacks of people do.

You’d have to think that despite all of our woes, a spine of CNK, Hynes, Wighton and Hodgo would actually still be one of the better spines in the comp.

Chase him hard. Who cares if we pay overs it’s not like we we doing anything else
