Was going to go to this game but I think I will pass.
I don't think I have the appetite for travelling an hour each way to sit through another meek 30 point loss and then get told that if it wasn't for the errant bounce of the ball we mightn't have lost.

Re: 2021 Rd 12 V Roosters: Teams and Previews
I've had enough of Horse. His fitness is not the level of being a professional footballer. Is there a junior that we could blood? Starling may be unavailable - willing to give Schneider a proper go to have another look. This year's wasted anyway so let's look at some young players to see what they can do.
Re: 2021 Rd 12 V Roosters: Teams and Previews
I’m sure O’Donnell could hold his own if given the chance... wouldn’t mind seeing Williams given a week off to see how Schneider goes running the show at 7. I was tempted in putting Xavier Savage in, but I would hold off for this year as it is a write off, let him develop in reggies and have an off-season putting on size before blooding him in 2022.Hong Kong Raider wrote: ↑May 22, 2021, 11:17 pmI've had enough of Horse. I'm predicting we have an alright start to the game but at the 30th minute onwards stink it up

Could not give two **** who plays, since we'll get done regardless.
Absolutely do not want a young player like Savage brought into this kinda mess.

Re: 2021 Rd 12 V Roosters: Teams and Previews
The only young forwards ready for FG who is puting up consistent games is maybe Kai O'Donnel. He played a little bit of FG last year. He's playing edge in NSW Cup. Not tearing it up but going off numbers, he puts in a solid shift every week.Hong Kong Raider wrote: ↑May 22, 2021, 11:17 pmI've had enough of Horse. Esera and Moony straight out of SG Ball are promising. But it'd be a big jump straight into FG. I'd put RUshton in a similar category, although he's been in NSW Cup all year.
So Maybe O'Donnell or Rushton could come up for Hors- both being edge forwards but big enough to do a stint at lock. I don't see it happening though.
Hors only has himself to blame. Canberra isn't that big and from what I gather from people at the club and out and about, Hors is not doing every little 1%er he can to make it as a pro athlete.
Re: 2021 Rd 12 V Roosters: Teams and Previews
Oop, you beat me to it on the O'Donnel suggestion. He's not going to move the needle but if we need to kick Hors up the bum and put in triers, it's an option.UncleDrew wrote: ↑May 23, 2021, 12:01 am

Savage is bigger than some guys playing FG already- other speed guys like Staines at Penrith and Ramsay at St George. Not a huge issue. But yeah, don't bring him into this. He's playing FB in NSW Cup now which is interesting.

Corey Horsburgh escapes charge, Elliott Whitehead facing fine for trip
Canberra Raiders forward Corey Horsburgh was put on report in the Round 11 loss to the Melbourne Storm last night - but he has not been charged by the match review committee.
Horsburgh was penalised and reported in the 39th minute for a dangerous tackle on Storm forward Nelson Asofa-Solomona.
Asofa-Solomona appeared to milk the penalty, laying on the ground after incidental contact in the tackle.
Elliott Whitehead was the only Raiders player charged in Round 11. He faces a fine of $1150 to $1500, for a tripping incident involving Nicho Hynes.
The Sydney Roosters look like they'll be without Victory Radley and Angus Chricton for their match against the Raiders in Gosford in Round 12.
Radley was twice sin binned in the Roosters' loss to the Broncos. He faces a suspension of 4-6 weeks after being issued with charges of dangerous contact on Albert Kelly and a high tackle on Tevita Pangai Jnr. Chricton is looking at a two week suspension for a dangerous contact charge.

I'm not ready to give up on the season yet. Roosters will be tough no doubt, but they will be missing some key starters after yesterday and we have some key ins. After that we have a bye and then five winnable games: Broncos, Dragons, Titans, Sea Eagles and Sharks. If we can win 4 of them, we'll be around the 8 again even if we get done next Saturday against the Roosters. Given the dominance of the top 4-5 sides, a streak of 3-4 games will can turn things around at any time. Don't forget we were without our best 5 players last night - Wighton, Hodgson, Papalii, Tapine, and CNK. It is clear that our depth has been found wanting and there are clearly problems, but let's not get too mired. I'll certainly be there on Saturday at Gosford cheering my guts out, hammering down schooners, and yelling abuse at every toff wearing Roosters colours.

Watching the Parra v Manly game. Other teams are fitter and faster than us and have good ball movement. They are not afraid to give younger players a go - look at Schuster. Even Garrick has more pace than our back 5. I am normally very optimistic about the Raiders and thought we would win against Melbourne and even Penrith back in round 5.
Forget about making the 8. We are so far behind it's not funny. We are one of the most boring teams and rank with the bottom four teams. We think we are entitled every year to automatically make the 8. We are not well coached. Ricky has no idea. I think the worst is yet to come - more losses against opposition that we are expected to beat, and departures of good players.

Re: 2021 Rd 12 V Roosters: Teams and Previews
Manly have looked pretty awesome today and will be a huge challenge. However, the teams outside of the top 6 (Penrith, Melbourne, Souths, Parramatta, Roosters, Manly) aren't world beaters and are certainly beatable. The reality is that we are in a battle for one of the final two 8 spots with the Warriors, Titans, Dragons, Cowboys, Sharks, Knights and Tigers. No doubt a lift will be required, but I think we can beat that lot. If Papalii, Hodgson and Wighton can rediscover some of their best form and we can stay fit and available, there is still life left if you ask me. Provided we beat the teams we are competing with for those lower 8 spots going forward, we will make the 8.

With the news of CNK injury taking a lot longer than first anticipated we need to be looking at another option for fullback. Aekins has been very average, but of greater concern he lacks the basic tools like speed that you can develop. He’s an average player with limited scope to improve. I’d like to see one of Schneider’s young mates be given a shot. No expectations on the lad to set the world on fire but just show something!
Re: 2021 Rd 12 V Roosters: Teams and Previews
I'm just looking at this season to see who deserves to be around next season as part of what is hopefully an extensive rebuild and who gets to be fired into the sun.
Currently trying to find an appropriately sized barrel for Hors. Simo should fit a standard barrel.
Hard for guys like Scott, CHN, Semi who are trying to show they can be consistent FG'ers in a team shorn of basically all it's leaders though- No Papa, no Wighton, no CNK, no Tapine is probably too much to lose. I think we get Jack back this week.

I've actually liked what Simonsson has done back on the left but just doesn't get much opportunity, the brain explosion dead ball line incident aside I thought he had a good game.
Outside CNK and Aekins we don't have any fullbacks. Cook has been dreadful in nsw cup at fullback, Hoppa is out injured and completely untested at nsw cup level, Savage played there on the weekend looked lost in defence (could be anything yet though).
I'd have Rapana at fullback this week if fit, and Aekins either to the bench or out.

BnM - I hear you. When you are a long way off the pace, a tweak here and there is unlikely to change fortunes for season 2022. I think a serious rebuild is required, but by its very nature that means parting ways with some long term favourites and some potential players. Anything less is just tweaking around the edges.BadnMean wrote: ↑May 24, 2021, 7:37 am I'm just looking at this season to see who deserves to be around next season as part of what is hopefully an extensive rebuild and who gets to be fired into the sun.

yea that ended up being a fairly big moment in the game but i've got to say that rule is ****. it shouldn't need to bounce if the defensive player has a foot grounded out of play, it just doesn't line up with other rulings in the game.bonehead wrote: ↑May 24, 2021, 7:44 amwe get jack and hodgo back this week possibly RapaBadnMean wrote:I'm just looking at this season to see who deserves to be around next season as part of what is hopefully an extensive rebuild and who gets to be fired into the sun.
I'd have Rapana at fullback this week if fit, and Aekins either to the bench or out.

for example, it doesn't need to bounce to be dead/out on the full off a kick off if the player catching it has a foot grounded over the dead ball/sideline.
and if an attacking player try's to "bat back" the ball with his foot grounded out of play its classed as going out/dead

I just can't get past the bare facts that Simo has 2 line breaks in 2 seasons now. You cannot tell me he hasn't had a fair crack at finding a bit of an opportunity. He's played a few on the left too. I've seen enough. Solid enough in defence- makes an effort and decent contact usualy but has a few brain snaps this season he never used to. But he can't sniff a gap to save his life. Probably got all the speed and agility in drill work but no real attacking instincts.
