At this rate, our scorelines will be the same as Netball...so we’ll have that in common

Liz Ellis responds to Ricky Stuart apology over his netball comments

NRL coach Ricky Stuart botched his apology over a derogatory comment about netball, former Australian captain Liz Ellis says. Stuart didn't actually need to apologise, Ellis said, but had to genuinely acknowledge that he'd said the wrong thing.

"Firstly, I don't think that it was a proper apology that he made. Secondly, I didn't want an apology," Ellis said.

Yeah give it up Liz. The double standard here is that if Ricky said something that belittled AFL or Rugby Union nobody raises an eyelid and it is viewed as code rivalry. Men play netball as well (well half the blokes on the greenhouse seem to have at some point). It was a misguided off the cuff comment in a private conversation but even if it wasn’t - would it be so bad if Ricky thought netball was a soft sport compared to league. So he doesn’t like netball- that’s not a shot on those who play it and certainly not sexist.

If I was a netball coach I'd troll Stuart along the lines of "if I was as dumb as you I'd coach the Canberra Raiders"

Well I am travelling great, so old Liz must be sensational by your estimation. Not that it has anything to do with anything.

Surely I am allowed to have an opinion on whether I enjoy her commentary and bleating in the media? (I don’t). Or how she seemingly tries to bring up netball at every opportunity on given sports shows - a sport that bores me to tears and I couldn’t care less about? And here she is, continuing to fan the outrage flames to keep her name and her pointless sport in the headlines??

Yeah I’ll take a big fat old pass to any of that. Bugger off Liz

So I see you're being quite objective about the whole thing.

Pointless? Aren't they all?

1.2 million players says different. Higher participation than league champ.

Ah, getting “champed”... nice one.

I couldn’t care less about the participants, good luck to them if they enjoy it - it’s better than sitting on the couch! But as a sport, it’s incredibly dull and the action is the opposite of dynamic - which might explain the disparity between the participation levels and its impact on the Australian sporting landscape.

It would generate about 2% of the public interest that rugby league does (or any of the football codes frankly).

That’s just the reality, chief. You and Liz should get on board with it

I wouldn’t have a problem with Ricky saying netball is dull. Opinions are allowed. That isn’t what he said.

Doesn’t every former athlete do that? Watch Back Page whenever Fletch is on it, and he always tries to loop in Rugbah League.

Bozza too… but at least he tries to ask questions that compares the other sports to Football.
Feel free to call me RickyRicky StickStick if you like. I will also accept Super Fui, King Brad, Kid Dynamite, Chocolate-Thunda... or Brad.

Not sure you are allowed to talk up the GWS Giants on this site - no matter what sport they are playing.
