Re: 2021 Rd 10 V Bulldogs: Teams and Previews
The Dogs are the only team ATM that we have a remote chance of beating; but I wouldn't put money on it! We've changes personnel and positions with no success which leaves the only common denominator in all our losses, as the coach. However, Ricky will reach pension age before the Raiders' board consider his position.
It's a simple game; tackle, back-up, pass, hold the ball! What did I say? "Hold the bloody ball!!"

This is pretty accurate, except the part regarding Stuart being able to fix it. He has no clue. 9-13 this year for us.

Canberra Raiders like a 'broken record'

Jack Wighton feels the Canberra Raiders have lost the knack of winning.
"Winning's contagious and we just don't seem to have that at the moment. We're just on a roll of a losing streak, but we're going to stick together.
"There's 16 rounds to go and if we don't stick together it's going to be an extra long season. That's our main focus now is sticking together and looking after each other. We're going away from the ruck too early and losing possession. It's all stuff that's fixable, that's what's so frustrating."

Re: 2021 Rd 10 V Bulldogs: Teams and Previews
The 2 weeks following the Bulldogs game we have the Storm and Roosters.
Which means if we manage to out-**** the Dogs we almost certainly will lose 8 in a row, which to me sounds like the sort of streak we would put together in the very darkest days of the Furner/Stuart transition in 2013/2014.
A more precipitous fall from grace in sports you will be hard pressed to find.

Re: 2021 Rd 10 V Bulldogs: Teams and Previews
I agree. At least until CNK gets back. I honestly think he saves 2-3 tries a game that were are currently conceding, either by making the tackle himself or by organising the defensive line better. He also does the majority of the grunt work coming out of our own end. I know his loss isn't our only issue, but he really does paper over a lot of the cracks.
Ata Mariota’s #1 fan. Bless his cotton socks.

I’m fully on board with what afgfjgktltlt has been ramming down our throats this last month ad nauseam, the team is 3/3 with Lui and 0/5 without him... how can the coach not see that?
Forget bleeding green, forget sticking together, forget even sticking solid, what we need is to #bringbacknami!

Re: 2021 Rd 10 V Bulldogs: Teams and Previews
I don't want to wade into the simmering cold war about the size of CNK's influence on the team's fortunes.
But I do recall even in 2019 he was responsible or involved in an absurd amount of scramble defence try savers. Looking back we won 8 games that year by 7 points or less. It is not unreasonable to think that he probably saved our bacon in at least a couple of those games. And if you buy that logic then we don't make the top 4, and 2019 probably isn't written in folklore as the almost-fairytale season it turned out to be.

It’s not just the scramble and last minute tackles CNK makes, it’s also the marshalling of the whole defensive line that good fullbacks bring that the team is sorely missing right now.Mickey_Raider wrote:I don't want to wade into the simmering cold war about the size of CNK's influence on the team's fortunes.

I think anyone who’s not pushing a ridiculous agenda can recognise that too.
With CNK on the park we average 14 points conceded a game, if in the last five weeks our opposition were limited to 14 points, we win the games we absolutely should have won, and we lose the ones I don’t think we deserved to.

We need changes that mean something... Break everyone out of their rut, lets try:
1 - Wighton
2 - Simonsson, I guess, unless someone is going well in reserves?
3 - Croker* Depending on "injury"
4 - Kris
5 - Rapana
6 - G.Williams
7 - S.Williams
8 - Papalii
9 - Hodgson* Depending on "injury"
10 - Lui
11 - Whitehead
12 - Tapine* Unless injured
13 - Sutton* Unless injured
14 - Havili* Only if Hodgson was actually injured, otherwise I wouldn't mind a back but do we even have spare healthy ones?
15 - James
16 - Guler
17 - Rushton

I actually think we’d beat the bulldogs with Jack at the back, don’t think we stand a chance if we persist with Caleb David Milne Santo
Re: 2021 Rd 10 V Bulldogs: Teams and Previews
Bulldogs by 153.
Re: 2021 Rd 10 V Bulldogs: Teams and Previews
Bulldogs have got + 15.5 on the line bet. That's very generous.

He’s deadset David Milne’s body with Adrian Purtell’s speed and agility.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

What's the bubble situation? Hearing on radio anyone who played nsw cup on the weekend is ineligible so that's a pain with Sutton and Tapine in doubt

Yeah I heard when NSW went into lockdown, the clubs were told to pull NRL players out of NSW Cup and put them into their bubble. Now that the restrictions have been extended, there's concerns Qld will close the border to just the players in the bubble. Apparently Parra are concerned they won't have enough players

Re: 2021 Rd 10 V Bulldogs: Teams and Previews
Wade in all you want...as humans were conditioned to look for the quickest answer/solution even though it's wrong....we all want the fix to simply be "player X is missing" and when he returns "she'll be right"....but eventually you will see all roads lead to poor recruitment and retention and a lack of fitness to cope with the 6 again rules.Mickey_Raider wrote: ↑May 9, 2021, 6:40 pm I don't want to wade into the simmering cold war about the size of CNK's influence on the team's fortunes.

It is not unreasonable to think that he probably saved our bacon in at least a couple of those games. And if you buy that logic then we don't make the top 4, and 2019 probably isn't written in folklore as the almost-fairytale season it turned out to be.
Let me ask you this question - even if you were correct (CNK missing causing this implosion) ...are you happy with that outcome? Do you think a professional club trying to compete with the Roosters (injuries galore but no excuses) and Melbourne (No Papenhayzen for weeks yet still flogging teams) or Penrith (without their hooker for an age) should fall in a heap when a single player is missing from the system? Is this good enough?
All roads point to a lack of fitness, poor recruitment and retention. The recruitment and retention was called out last season (particularly around our backline after that shocking GF qualifier) and the lack of fitness of this squad to operate under the 6 again rules is alarming...
Ricky has earned 12 months to sort it out (16 rounds this year and a few next).
If not, find someone who can do that job.

That applied to teams in greater Sydney. Raiders and Knights were told they could have top 30 players in NSW Cup... but they still applied tighter game day conditions. Applied level three protocols for game day.Fuifui Bradbrad wrote: ↑May 10, 2021, 8:35 amYeah I heard when NSW went into lockdown, the clubs were told to pull NRL players out of NSW Cup and put them into their bubble. Prefer Dunamis and James for Sutton and Tapine if they are unfit.
If they are, then I think Guler and CHN have been underwhelming. I wouldn't start CHN.
Through no fault of his own, Havili is underused. If Hodgson is available he needs to play with Starling on the bench and injected with 10 mins to go in the 1st half.
If Croker is available, perhaps some time in reserves to get his form back - 3 weeks, but Scott hasn't impressed so I'm OK either way. Timoko would add energy.
Give Bailey another 3 weeks given Semi has been injured. Another option is to have Bailey at fullback and Semi on the wing
