Do we need to pay 1 mil for Reynolds? Is that what the Sharks and Bronx are throwing at him? I’d take him for 8-850k

Re: George Williams homesick for England?
I suspect to get him we would need to offload and downgrade on another key player to free up cap space. Possibly end up in a situation where we have locked in a gun 7 but now need to replace someone like Jack or Papa who might be lost in the process of getting that gun 7. This is why Donny gets the big bucks I guess.
Re: George Williams homesick for England?
This guy is the best halfback we've had since Stuart. Would be shattered if we lose him. We have nothing coming through and a dearth of quality halves in the game right now.
Really hope this isn't true. Starting to fall apart quickly it seems if it is. Can see Stuart's days being numbered too.

Re: George Williams homesick for England?
It is correct George's partner is expecting... so it would be understandable that she'd be wanting to be with family... or would want family to be here... at this time.Raider47 wrote: ↑May 3, 2021, 4:36 pm His partner is British I assume and I'm sure I saw somewhere they are having a kid? Seems pretty normal to me tbh to want to get home especially during these covid times of not being able travel home.
Absolutely sucks for us, but hardly surprising.
You really get that something is rotten at the club feeling don't you.
Probably time to look to rebuild.

Do you actually see that though? I think a more likely scenario is a wholesale clean out of the squad and we start again.

Reynolds is a pipe dream...
Sharks are offering him 3 years for $2.4M....more importantly, he wants to stay in Sydney.
We would be stupid to offer $3M....it would be for all the wrong reasons.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure John Bateman is fine too, it’s just his manager driving up the price.Aero wrote:Because until GW comes out and says I want to go home, it's all fairy dust and unicorn farts as far as I'm concernedThe Nickman wrote:Why is it a big if? And Blake Ferguson? I’m sure he’s just unexpectedly popped up the coast for six years, he should be back any second soon.

Canberra Raiders look to support homesick England international George Williams
The Canberra Raiders are doing everything they can to support a homesick George Williams and his partner Charlotte Lewis, including looking to bring their parents out from England to Canberra.
"From time to time overseas players can go through [homesickness], but we'll always be supportive and put whatever we can around him," Raiders chief executive Don Furner said.

I said this in the previous thread...a rebuild could buy Ricky time..afgtnk wrote: ↑May 3, 2021, 5:29 pm This guy is the best halfback we've had since Stuart. Would be shattered if we lose him. We have nothing coming through and a dearth of quality halves in the game right now.

Otherwise, were heading the direction of Cronulla....only without a title to show for it.

Not arguing the accuracy or validity of journos. I can see us making a play for Jamal Foggerty...
Not an organising half, but young (27) and can kick goals...wouldn't cost a fortune...

What about we steel the Roosters plan to bring across TJ Peranara from the All Blacks. Brilliant footballer, keen to test himself in league and surely the Roosters cap has to dry up if they need to lock up Sam Walker.

I lean that way too.Raiders_Pat wrote: ↑May 3, 2021, 5:22 pmI think he would likely still be effective but I just don't think anybody is worth $1mil at 34 besides players at the level of Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk, etc.Northern Raider wrote: ↑May 3, 2021, 5:11 pmI wouldn't let his age be an inhibitor. Reynolds playing style relies more on his skills above the neck than below. He can still be effective at 32 or 33. More importantly he would be an excellent complement to Wighton.Raiders_Pat wrote: ↑May 3, 2021, 4:58 pmAdam Reynolds would be exactly what we're looking for - an organising half with a great kicking game. However, $1mil a year for somebody who will shortly be 31 years old is not good value.
But agree that ARey would be great for Jack and Hodgo

Classic Raiders move. I think so too. Stick is pretty entrenched in the club. We’ll get a new squad before we get a new coach
Feel free to call me RickyRicky StickStick if you like. I will also accept Super Fui, King Brad, Kid Dynamite, Chocolate-Thunda... or Brad.

Re: George Williams homesick for England?
Couldnt imagine Perenara as a starting nrl halfback at 30 years of age.
His best shot of making a go of the nrl would be as bench hooker/utility

Re: George Williams homesick for England?
If George is to head home, the answer is not a stop gap... the answer is not to look at that and find a bandaid and hope we can keep the train moving
At that point, it's time to stop. Take a step back and go into full rebuild. And our best options as far as halves go, would be to identify the next big thing and make a godfather offer. If you dont see that next big thing right now, fine, we've got some other things to do in the meantime to help the squad... you manage the squad, you start to complete refresh it, and you keep the flexibility to identify the next Sam Walker/Reece Walsh/whoever... and you make sure you have a team that in enticing and a salary cap situation that allows you to make the bold play

Re: George Williams homesick for England?
Lots of talk about doing a rebuild, like we've got to stop somewhere in time and start over again.
IMO, that doesn't exist. The reality is you've got to be constantly evolving every season. I see this squad and it is still very well built - it has the bones of a premiership winning team. If Sticky were to leave now, he'd be leaving behind some very strong foundations, instead of a mess.
What we didn't do last year, going into this year, is shed and recruit enough. The main recruit we signed wasn't needed. The weakness last year was blatantly obvious, yet we chose not to address. We extended ageing stars like Soliola and Rapana, when clubs with a more ruthless streak probably would've let them go and freed up the money. We gave an insane deal to a 30 year old centre who isn't and wasn't rep quality. Persisted with a fullback whose attacking abilities have not only not developed, but regressed - and signed a back up that's no better.
Me and a few others said that we feared the squad didn't change enough over the off season. I think those fears have now come to be realised.
