Canberra Raiders dealt huge blow as neck injury puts CNK out for up to two months

The Canberra Raiders have been dealt a major injury blow with scans revealing fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad is expected to be out for up to two months. The Green Machine fullback sustained a neck injury against the Panthers with scans revealing he has a bulging disc in his neck. Depending on whether Nicoll-Klokstad requires surgery will dictate his length of time on the sidelines.

Gutted more for Charnze than the Raiders team.
This guy has just given all of himself every game. Feel sorry that's he's gotta have some time on the sidelines. Hope he comes back fresher and better.

Tough blow
What’s the best option now?

Sadly we don’t have a ball playing fullback in the squad that I’m aware of

Aetkins probably gets the run, Albert Hoppa?

Aekins is the best option. The NRL has no reason to allow Hopoate to play before Rd 10, while Aekins is in the squad. Hopoate is not top 30.

I’d rather give Simonsson a shot with Valemei on a wing or a reshuffle accommodating Scott
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

I don't think Simonsson is a first grade fullback. He is too error prone. In fact, I think he's struggling to keep a spot in first grade on the wing.

That's why I think we should go with the specialist fullback.

If Scott is back, Kris should be on the wing.

As long as it's not Rapana

But it's an even money chance he'll be named there tomorrow

Aekins will get the gig. He was brought in as backup to CNK and this is where he's needed. A solid replacement.

CNK got injured eay in the game and this must have been the result. Kikau club in the back of the head wouldn't have helped.

I disagree with this entirely. I’m not sure Simo is a fullback but I think he’d be better than Aekins.

Also Kris is not a winger at all imo.

I agree about Kris. He's a perfectly cromulant option to throw out there if you get injuries in game, but i wouldnt be starting a game with him on the wing if i could help it.

Simo to fullback is interesting, i think the way forward would be Aekins and if he's a disaster, then you look to guys like Simo and Rapana and figure out your best plan C

Also at least it's only 2 months... which means he'll be back well in time to get some legs into him before the finals
We've also got a bye week in 8 weeks, so it might make sense to say he's out until after the bye, and then we've got a nice little month of footy for him to find his feet

And I reckon 8 weeks is the extreme.

The medical staff have made an initial assessment and we’ll see how CNK heals.

Rest and rehab may see him back in 5-6 weeks.

Who knows.

Aekins for mine - he played against us in the game last year.

I would not be trusting Rapana or Bailey

Tough news for him. Really hope extra care is taken with stuff like neck injuries. Don't want it to cause any player serious issues in future.

Aekins the obvious choice to come in.

I'd like to see Aekins.

I wouldn't be against using Bailey. I think he should be next cab and the reason we didn't use him last week might've been because the flow-on effect was worse, i.e. Kris to wing was not as good a fit as Croker to wing and Hudson to centre was not as good as Elliott to centre.

This could be the opportunity Bailey needs to kick on. It also means we can bring in Valemei and get a bit more punch on the wing.

Allows Wighton to play anywhere in attack and follow the ball where he would be more dangerous IMO

Ordinary fullback. Excellent 5/8. Shifting him there weakens 2 spots at once. Havili over Tapine at lock you've weakened 3 spots. Moving one of the best hookers in the game to 5/8 weakens all 4 spots.

havilii over Tapine is a step too far for me
the other moves, whilst i dont agree with at all, i can see in a vaccum why someone might be interested in that.
