Can Aekins ball play? Who would you compare him to, anyone who's seen him play???

Surely this is the exact reason we bought him, so I expect he will get call up...

Interestingly, he is most like CNK. Works very hard, doesn't make many errors, not much ball playing, but is a solid full back. His debut game for Panthers, he made 300+ metres. Hasn't had many opportunities in first grade, but either had CNK when he first joined.

Would actually compare him to CNK. Probably the closest NRL player he resembles. I'd see it as very much a like for like replacement if it happens.

There could even be a chance that fans take to him better than CNK, tbh - I think he's probably a touch faster and slightly more agile.

Agree with the above, his best comp in the NRL is CNK.
But whilst CNK's ball playing might be a 1 or 2 out of 10... Aekins is probably a 3?
So probably a very slight upgrade in that department i think

You know the coach is likely to put Rapana at full-back. It’s would be such a Stuart thing to do

I dont think so
I think he's comfortable with Rapana at fullback as a stop game in game (im not, but he clearly is) but i fully expect Aekins to get the nod. If he was not our back up fullback option, there would be little to no point of having brought him in here.

Yep - precisely zero point of going out of your way to sign a back up fullback if you don't use him, especially when the same back up options you had the previous season still exist.

he was also in the final 19? for a game where CNK was under an injury cloud
So i think Stuart is going to feel comfortable turning to him first... if he stinks the joint up, then we'll see what comes next

CNK will be a bigger loss than Hodgo last year. I dare say this could cost us a top 4 spot.

Not disrespecting CNK, but if we don't make the top 4, it won't have anything to do with CNK's absence.

Don't underestimate the work he does in defense on and off the ball, especially on our goal line

I'm not.
I genuinely like him in our side (possibly as a centre).
I don't think his ball playing is enough from fullback.
His defence is top notch - you won't get an argument from me on that.

Agree he's a centre along with wighton. Ricky needs to recruit a flamboyant natural ball playing 6.. bring back Milford?

No on Milford.
Wighton is a 6.
If anything, we recruit a fullback who can ball play. The issue here is cost.
For his weekly contributions, CNK is a bargain for us.

I’d have Young at 13.
James off the bench with Tapine starting in the front row.
Starling for Havili.

I assume this is a joke, but the very reason Milford sucks these days is because he isn’t a natural ball playing 6. His strength has always been his running game, either as a running five eighth or fullback. He’s not an organiser, and never will be.

Yep Milford has great upside and I think the right team can get a bit of a steal because I can't imagine he will be able to be too fussy about contracts

As long as he is allowed to just run the bloody ball

I am not saying he has zero play making because he is alright at it. He is a perfectly good fullback (although his defence has been poor) or 5/8th but he just isnt a good fit for the role the bronx have him in.

No chance we add Milford.
Horrible, horrible defence..both at fullback and at 6.
He’s a perfect Wests Tigers recruit.

So we're looking to move the Dally M winning 5/8 to centre and replace him with a guy who's being dropped from one of the worse teams in the comp. I might take some convincing on that one.

Brisbane are not playing him right, he's got great footwork with a very decent short kick and pass.. he almost won the Broncos a GF in his first year and for me he was the Clive Churchill.. let's be honest his GF performance was better than Jacks ( Just saying).. after all people on here have selective memory as they forget how good he was for us.. he's low on confidence atm and needs a new start with a suitable role.. I'm sure he can work on his defense.. bring the kid back home

Jack won the Dally M coz he's one of the very few attacking players in our team so he stands out more.. Im sure wed all prefer a keary, munster or walker who can kick and pass better than Jack.. let's not be bious

By your own admission he's a standout in our team playing at 5/8. Saying he's not as good as Keary or Munster in that position is hardly grounds to shift him to centre.

Farewell to the expired - Croker, whitehead and Soliola. Sell Havili. Semi re-build to change style to more attacking. Due to a lack of strike from our backline, get our 2 most damaging forwards on the edge to create chances, rather than being tackled by 3-4 players in the middle. Also we have enough young forwards to do the dirty work in the middle which will preserve valuable players like taps and Paps.

Just incase you thought he's in the group of premier 6's in the comp.. he's not even top 5. Being a Standout in our team has shown to not be enough to win us a comp. The fact is our halves are not up there with the top 4 teams and until Ricky does something to change that.. we are all wasting our time..
