2020 Rd 6 V Eels: Teams and Previews
If Hodgson is out, I don’t think this is a bad thing. He was gassed after 25 minutes and you could see that’s when we started to crumble. He just couldn’t get to dummy half enough. So I’m thinking the team will run out like this
1. CNK
2. Simonsson
3. Croker (Should be held responsible and dropped but won’t be)
4. Kris
5. Rapana
6. Wighton
7. Williams
8. Papa
9. Starling
10. Sutton
11. Whitehead
12. Young
13. Tapine
14. Havilli (should be an outside back instead, but won’t be)
15. James
16. Guler
17. CHN
18. Solliola

We are way underusing Starling IMO. It's a problem.

Well Ricky has a tendency to not tinker with a winning team, the Warriors loss was understandable in terms of the team that was named the following week. Will be interesting to see if he makes the necessary changes... I’m not overly optimistic though.

Re: 2020 Rd 6 V Eels: Teams and Previews
I'd agree with this. I thought we looked pretty dangerous with Starling and Hodgson at 13. Anyone watch the roosters last night and see what Radley added when he came back on late in the game? He takes the ball one off the ruck, runs straight and commits defenders (opening space on outside), then delivers inch perfect passes to the halves who are in motion and are now two off with more space. I think Hodgson can play a role sort of like this in our team. And with Starling so sharp out of dummy half there is no weak link that defenders don't have to commit too. It is is something we should try and develop more imo.

Take two of my team after second thoughts. I think Simonsson could spend some time in reserve grade. He needs to add to his game. I also think we need to play Harawira-Naera in second row, we brought him here to do that.
1. Nicoll-Klokstad
2. Valemei
3. Croker
4. Scott
5. Rapana
6. Wighton
7. Williams
8. Papalii
9. Hodgson
10. Tapine
11. Harawira-Naera
12. Whitehead
13. Young
14. Havili
15. Kris
16. Sutton
17. James
Covers for various injuries but if there are no injuries you would run Sutton, James and Havili as the second middle unit and Kris could give Harawira-Naera or even Croker or Whitehead a 20min spell. As much as I'd love to play Starling, with Hodgson fit there's just no room.

Can't say I'm sold on it. They looked quite clunky at times and it didn't look as though they had spent much time with it at training to me.Boomercm wrote: ↑April 11, 2021, 3:01 pmI'd agree with this. All our problems will be solved with two words: Trevor Thurling.
Re: 2020 Rd 6 V Eels: Teams and Previews
Yeah but if they start implementing it now, by round 15-20 it'll probably be looking pretty slick and they'll have another shape to throw at defences.Raiders_Pat wrote: ↑April 11, 2021, 3:52 pm

It'd be a good way for them to get the ball wider, earlier which is handy with defences going backwards to target teams with slower outside backs, e.g us.

Otherwise, I like the team.
Young is a 13...
Taps and Papa are our best props and all 3 can offload.

Re: 2020 Rd 6 V Eels: Teams and Previews
I recall he was a gun junior, players player in u20s or something. But fans (including me) just kind of shrugged when he left. We had Lee/Oldfield and Rapana ahead of him and there was a feeling he was kind of blocked. We also had Cotric a year or so younger than Ravalawa but who was so clearly ready for FG footy and going to be a star.Canberra Milk wrote: ↑April 11, 2021, 9:27 pm Ravalawa was rubbish his first 1-2 years with Saints. I still think that due to the back half of the 2008 season, it was one of the most enjoyable seasons I’ve watched in 20 years as a Raiders fan.radicalraider wrote: ↑April 11, 2021, 11:01 pmYup.. Colin Best was unbelievable. Played left centre for most of the season, but ended up winning Daly M winger of the year.

2008 was good to watch especially when we beat Penrith 74 12.. after they lead 12-0. What great day that was. Than 09 we beat lockers Broncos 56-0. Hard to choose which was more enjoyable.yeh raiders wrote: ↑April 12, 2021, 8:06 amI still think that due to the back half of the 2008 season, it was one of the most enjoyable seasons I’ve watched in 20 years as a Raiders fan.radicalraider wrote: ↑April 11, 2021, 11:01 pmYup.. I think people are remembering through green-tinted glasses. He only scored 14 tries in 2008. There were 14 games he didn't score in that year, so his total looks better due to scoring 4 in one game vs the Bulldogs where we put 58 on them. He scored 20 tries in 2005 for the Dragons. Overall he scored 109 tries in 261 games in Aus, and 41 tries in 63 games in England. Hardly a one-season wonder.Northern Raider wrote: ↑April 12, 2021, 4:02 pmBest's form every year before and after was not even close to what he did in 2008. As pointed out he spent most of the season at centre where he was tearing defenses a new one. He scored a lot of tries on the wing at the Dragons with a lot of assistance from the guys inside him.Finchy wrote: ↑April 12, 2021, 4:33 pmI think people are remembering through green-tinted glasses. 'I need my hands on the ball': Canberra Raiders prop Josh Papalii set for Parramatta Eels star Junior Paulo
Josh Papalii says he has had a below-par start to the season. So you look at the numbers and naturally wonder just how much better the 28-year-old Raider can get.
"I've started slow this season and that's something I didn't want to do. It is what it is, now I get to play against the best two props in the game. I think I need to get my hands on the ball more and try to get us on the front foot and set a foundation.," Papalii said.

Canberra Raiders trainer in the spotlight for hand in Penrith Panthers melee
The NRL is on the verge of a possible sanction on a Canberra Raiders trainer under scrutiny for putting his hand on a Penrith player and confronting another during an on-field melee.
"That is actively under review right now. I would hope there would be an outcome on that, if not later today then certainly by tomorrow," Graham Annesley said.

Panthers, Raiders breach decisions loom
Penrith and Canberra could know as soon as Monday afternoon whether the NRL will sanction the clubs for separate breaches at their match on Friday night.
The Panthers have come under scrutiny for potential breaches of NRL and NSW government COVID-19 guidelines on venue capacity at Panthers Stadium on Friday night. Only one person per two square metres is permitted on the hill, but instead the club sold out the ground for a 20,890-strong crowd.
