No doubt. Its early in the season and we played poor.

We can and will do better. But no need for some of the over reactions here.
Yeah explain how?
I don’t want to hear we’ll still
Make the 8 ...we could sleep through the season and make the top 6...
How are we going to get better when the coach can’t make tough calls about personnel?
Sure. I don't think personnel or coaching were the problem tonight.

We saw some poor errors from people like G Williams, Hodgo, Whitehead and an out of position Rapa which all lead to throwing away field position/points. I think its clear these guys can and will do better from what we have seen them do before today.

yes exactly

Jack hasn't hit his straps properly this season. The reigning Dally M and a Clive Churchill winner, so its not like he hasn't got the talent, he just hasn't been quite there. He will though.

Thats how we will get better. When all these players are hitting their form we will be very, very hard to stop. And in doing so we will limit opportunities for the opposition in their attack, allowing our high energy effort in defence to dominate teams.

Ya know what I've convinced myself here, **** it we will win this comp.
I love your enthusiasm and I tipped us to win the comp to (surprise huh)..
But we aren’t winning **** with some of the personnel choices...
It wasn’t about errors...we make errors every game, but most teams aren’t good enough to punish us...Penrith are.

Hell...they made errors too and we weren’t good enough to take complete advantage...the rest is history.
If the grand final was tomorrow I would 100% agree.

But its a looong season and we ain't seen nothing yet

MATCH REPORT: Penrith Panthers overrun Canberra Raiders as Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad fails HIA

To win at Penrith these days, everything needs to go your way. And lady luck wasn't smiling on the courageous Canberra Raiders on Friday.

The final scoreboard read 30-10. It was Penrith's 22nd win in 23 games, their 12th straight at home, and another statement to the league that last year's beaten grand finalists are very much the team to beat.

In my experience Penrith have by far the worst fans in the competition.

Penrith Park tonight was an absolute cesspit of low IQ drunken degenerates with zero idea of how to be magnanimous and classy in victory.

The town itself is a tinpot, depressing dive too.

However them doing the Viking clap should only be laughed off as a compliment - imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

As far as I can make out reading back a few pages:

Rapana is too old and dumb.
Simmo is a ghost.
Croker is a nice guy but is also too old.
Kris must be in the team.
Wighton does nothing to influence a game.
Williams is at Sezers level and is our weakness.

Please read what I posted earlier
Soliola has past it.
Young isn’t an edge.
Whitehead shouldn’t chat to the media.
We aren’t contenders and have too many plodders.
We’ll never win a premiership with Ricky as coach.
Our bench selections were poor.

Did I miss anything? Please add if I did.

I agree with some of those points but others are way over the top. I think Croker and Soliola are done and our bench needs more thought. Other than that we’re going ok.

Yeah that makes sense...
I thought the ruck and 6 again were a crap shoot again...who friggen knows how this works...
We couldn’t buy a 6 again and the one time we did, Whitehead ran into touch...
No complaints about the ref aside from the fact they are all usually very poor..

The 6 again rule I often can't tell what it was for in live play. I'm a bit on the fence about it as a result.

Got out to the game. Being surrounded by howling, heckling Riff fans was a decent test of patience.

We’re a committed side with a lot of heart, that’s for sure. Our defence is great in terms of effort, not so much in terms of brains. Good teams create plenty of chances against us. Our attack is woeful. We create little and when we do, we lack the athleticism to make it count.

I hope that this is a catalyst for Rick to realise a few of these guys aren’t up to it anymore and that the way we’re playing at the moment isn’t going to win us a comp.

As for Penrith, they’re a damn good footy side. Great D and are always asking questions going forward.

Seriously. you're going to take a headline from the DT as a guide to how you should feel? In no way where we embarrassed tonight.

Just rewatched and the turning point was definitely the bombed try by Croker. Had we led 12-0 with 10 to go in the first half and the wind in our sails, Penrith would have found themselves in an uncomfortable position they hadn't experienced often in the past 23 matches.

That was a massive let off on a night where we needed everything to go right to be in with a shot.

Thought I heard the commentators say that was the oldest team vs the youngest team playing tonight? That is more depressing than the result.

And I have no idea what the plans are for Croker over the next 3 years. They can't just shift him into the back row and then the front row ala Ruben Wiki?

We were on top with our best 17.
They got on top when we lost our fullback and had to shuffle things.

I really think this sort of take is overly emotional
I agree we're not quite on their level but we're not that far off.
Rubbish.
They made early errors and we were on top. We failed to take advantage (Croker bombing one)...
Then they cleaned up their errors and the true gap between the teams showed.
Both sides made errors
Both were not at their peak. We were clearly on top imo... the gap appeared immediately after CNK left. Our reshuffle was never going to stand up
Nor should it to be fair, if you are playing one of the top teams and you lose a spine player on the match you are going to struggle. Regardless of what bench strategy you have, despite the opinion of many on this marvellous site!

The scary thing is Panthers went into the match without Two key spine players. Having said that I do think Panthers will have another outstanding season only to shut the bed late in the postseason.

I agree, they're missing key players which is scary. in game, as bad as Staines was, if they lost him and we remained 1-17, instead of the reverse, i think we'd have won the game

Im really not fussed about this at all. I think we're ok. I like where we are, which is not on their level right now, but i saw enough to think its all in our hands. If we get our **** figured out, we can match them and beat them
I'm with you.

Penrith were better than us tonight. They are talented right across the park. They are confident and they play with an arrogance that, IMO, is pretty unlikeable.

We do not have the raw speed they do, or the polish in attack, but we matched them for most of the game. It was really a 15 minute spell where we lost CNK and also lost our composure that they really gave it to us.

Other than that, they scored an opportunistic try at the end. If Toots grounds that ball and we go up 12-0, who knows how the game plays out.

Stuart's use of the bench was the most disappointing thing for me, but the boys never gave in despite being under the pump at the end.

I think we can beat these guys at the business end of the season. I really do.

Jesus H Christ.

Let’s not all flip out here. Remember who just beat us. Where the game was played. Our shuffle of positions. All this needs to be taken into consideration before we talk about the costly errors by plenty of the boys.

There was some really dumb stuff..

But hey, it’s rnd 5. We are 3-2.

Ten years ago a 3-2 record would have us running naked in the street.

Just chill.

Penrith were the better team over 80 minutes on the night. Losing 2 spine players during the match did not help, particularly the early loss of CNK. The reshuffle of the backline the loss of CNK caused was to have a telling effect later in the game.

Luai is a very instinctive footballer and leader on their left with and without the ball. It is a pleasure to watch him play.

We could go without a HIA for a change!

The CNK loss really screwed us. The fact it was as a result of a high tackle doesn't help.

Anyway, we weren't good enough on the day, although at our best (in the first 20 mins) we were with them.

They play with a lot more intensity than any other team in the comp. If you can wear that for 20 mins and keep the errors down they can get frustrated. We wore it, but then got a few injuries and got sucked into the niggle. That's when they had us beat.

I woke up this morning and my overwhelming thought is the same
We’re going to be ok

We might not win the premiership this year, but nothing I saw last night suggested we can’t win it if we get a bit of luck at the right time
We’ve got some work to do but we’ve got a season ahead to do it

And my god, this 18th man rule is so ridiculously dumb
I can’t believe they’ve gone down this path when other solutions are so much simpler and easier

Bit annoyed by the viking clap taunt. You expect low-class out of that area, though it wouldn't be nearly so aggravating if they didn't put themselves so firmly in the driver's seat through foul play.

CNK gets HIA'd by an illegal high shot, completely disrupting us, and the bogans think the situation merits salt in the wounds? Yeah, righto...

You know what I'd like to see? If a player gets wiped out due to foul play, the opponent that took him down gets pulled off the field, and can only return if the injured player does.
