Warm up shirts - numbers on sleeves
Does anyone know what the numbers on the sleeves of the warm up jerseys are?
I am not talking about the ones on the back - they are their Raiders player number and have been around for a while. Ricky is 94, Croker 294, Papa 300 etc.
There is another number on the sleeve. Some of them are quite low, others much higher.
The only thing I can think of is they are the player number of the player who presented them their jersey??

It's the club number of a legend who plays the same position, I believe.

Re: Warm up shirts - numbers on sleeves
Yes, I can promise you this was no sort of Dorothy Dix leading into this article coming out.
They have answered my questions perfectly.
What a great concept. For some reason since Ricky has been coach, these sort of things reflecting our history just seem to work. Dave Furner tried so hard to do these sort of things, but for whatever reason, it just didn't seem to click. Perhaps it is the personalities on our list compared to now, I don't know.
Sometimes you see coaches who didn't play for the club really trying to focus on the history of the club (ie my AFL team) and it just doesn't seem genuine. Dave obviously had as much if not more Raiders history than Sticky but Sticky seems to have hit the right note.

Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

I don't think people here realise how much Buttsy was respected by the playing group both as a player and person.

I loved him, showed what determination and hard work can achieve.

absolutely. Don't forget he got the rough end of the pineapple when our reserves finished at the end of 2007. He packed up and moved to Souths Logan, worked as a greens keeper in Brisbane and didn't have any guarantees of any sort of professional career. Tongue and Withers gets injured and suddenly he is making his debut against Cameron Smith. Goes on to play 114 games for the Raiders, now is doing youth work helping a lot of kids. Wonderful story.
The other one to come out of the end of the reserves was BJ Lawrence. He didn't go to Souths Logan but went and played two years for the Woden Rams, gets an offer from the Titans and ends up playing 104 games, a few for the Titans but mainly Manly including a Grand Final.
These are wonderful stories of blokes that kept working hard. As a fan I have all the time in the world for what they achieved.
I reckon if you gave Tom Starling a career of 114 NRL games he would take it in a heartbeat.
