Sia and Lui unlucky to lose their spots but I just think Guler and Hors offer more upside. HSS is there as injury cover or at worst a late injection into left centre with Kris roaming around the middle. Jeez it’s hard to pick this side.
I do expect Stick to name the same team as the Tigers game and to be honest I can’t blame him and I’d be quite happy with it. This is just my take.

Does anyone know why Lui only had 17 minutes this week? Did he go off injured? Otherwise I don't feel why you would change that team. It looked a bit underdone but they game good at the end, just need to work on our attack a bit.

With the speed of the ruck I’d like to see starling on the bench.

I presume it was because we didn’t have any injuries in the forwards or a need for a second stint from a player other than Tapine and Papa.Ultima wrote:Does anyone know why Lui only had 17 minutes this week? I can’t see Ricky changing the team, which is fair enough.
However I do think our bench should have Starling for variation.
The guys on the outside will have to earn the call up, unless there are injuries or Ricky is planning to play on rotation.

Re: 2020 Rd 2 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
I predict Croker to 3, Kris to bench in place of Sutton, Horsburgh 18th man. It would be tough on Sutton, but that just how it be for our middles, any that drop out will get another go soon enough.
Alternatively, if Croker could use more conditioning, Kris can hold his own. Horsie may be named ahead of Sutton

I don’t want to drop any of our props, but I want an outside back on the bench for the purpose of team dynamics if Croker is going to be named at centre. With everyone fit, Lui played 17 minutes and at the same time we nearly had Havilii come on as a replacement for a injured winger in the first half.
If all our middles remain injury free, then I think there is going to be a rotation policy of sorts. Sutton was a great injection for his 38 minutes, I could be wrong but perhaps the more older, experienced players will not be taking a rest for round 2.

Hahaha it really is. I guess that's the "problem" with our incredible depth this season... we're going to get some pretty hot takes.simo wrote: ↑March 15, 2021, 11:47 amas sid rolls in wanting to drop sutton after he was our best prop yesterday. its really confusingThe Nickman wrote: ↑March 15, 2021, 11:27 amLike you said yesterday, at times I genuinely feel like I'm watching a different game than a lot of the GH's most faithful.simo wrote: ↑March 15, 2021, 11:17 amfox commentators praising our line speed at length too
Re: 2020 Rd 2 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
but why is your answer to drop the best performer? a player with ability to cover extended minutes anytime its called on? its not that i dont agree we need better cover for injury, it just doesnt make sense to drop sutton for itSid wrote: ↑March 15, 2021, 11:58 am I don’t want to drop any of our props, but I want an outside back on the bench for the purpose of team dynamics if Croker is going to be named at centre. I thought we started well....It was our execution in the final 20 that was the problem. We weren't particularly patient, which has been a problem for a few seasons.

2020 Rd 2 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
Oh Mal,
My comment was much more about wanting to to add Kris to the bench when Croker is going to be named to start at centre. Someone would have to eventually make way if that were to happen though, oh, let’s say... Moe.
We have crazy middle depth right now. Even if we run with a bench full of forwards again it will mean 2 very good forwards are going to miss out. Guler and Horsburgh are both available to play in round 2, neither played in the win against the Tigers. There are going to be weeks where we’re going to have middles miss out on a first grade spot that would make the top 17 of any other club, it’s a beautiful problem to have, particularly when none are clouded by injury and suspension.
At the same time if we run with bench full of forwards when Croker does come back to the starting side, that means, fully fit, our reserve grade side have Kris, HSS, Timoko, Valemei and Hopoate all as options to play at centre/wing and one of those won’t play reserve grade.

Id drop Liu (considering he only got 17 mins) for Sutton, then bring in CHN. I'd possibly also bring in Starling for Havili.

Re: 2020 Rd 2 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
A fair question and a much of a muchness really. I don’t like when someone says they want player X to play, yet don’t offer up a name on who has to drop out for that to happen. In my case, wanting an outside back on the bench when Croker is fit to return.simo wrote:but why is your answer to drop the best performer? a player with ability to cover extended minutes anytime its called on? its not that i dont agree we need better cover for injury, it just doesnt make sense to drop sutton for itSid wrote: ↑March 15, 2021, 11:58 am I don’t want to drop any of our props, but I want an outside back on the bench for the purpose of team dynamics if Croker is going to be named at centre. Reason I offered up Sutton’s name out of any was not to rubbish him. It was also less to do with form and more to do with NRL experience and leadership. It’s ideal that we have guys like Sutton to step up from the start of the season and have the kind of form that can apply pressure for a spot to leaders that have played rep games, more NRL first grade games and have the kind of stature that they do. We also have Red who a number of experts have earmarked to play origin in the near future on the outside looking in, it’s a great place to be in.

Yep, Stuart isn't touching that lineup.
If Croker was 120% fit and Stuart wanted him back in, then I would put Kris on the bench in place of Soliola, but that's not going to happen.

Re: 2020 Rd 2 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
You don’t drop players after a solid win when no one played badly. It leads to players starting to worry about being dropped for little reason, over playing their hand or being selfish in games.
Sounds like Ricky picked the team for the first round based on last years performance, raw ability, who trained the hardest and who didn’t get into trouble off field in the off season.
Those outside guys will have to play themselves into the team when injury, form and player rest give them an opportunity to prove themselves. They definitely will get an opportunity sometime soon.
