I don't think signing a reserve grade winger is going to make much difference.

Better than what we’ve got, size and speed... both things we are lacking. Simonsson is not a first grader and Rapana is well past it. I would be throwing the bank at Coates for 2022.Northern Raider wrote: ↑April 18, 2021, 8:58 amI don't think signing a reserve grade winger is going to make much difference.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
The guy is 28 years old and played 35 NRL matches. He's a reserve grader. You're complaining that our wingers are not up to 1st grade standard then this isn't a solution.UncleDrew wrote: ↑April 18, 2021, 9:27 amBetter than what we’ve got, size and speed... both things we are lacking. Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
I think everyone would agree we are currently struggling in the wingers and centre positions and need to look enter the market to boost these positions, and not just short term but also long term. One kid who is killing it in reserves at Penrith is an 18 year old Izzak Tago. don't know how long he is contracted to them but money must be getting tight out there with with all the upgrades they have had to do of late with there young player. Could be an opportunity to land a high quality 18 year old with a lot of upside in a position we are desperate to find answers at a cheap price.

Yeah chalk me up as being in the camp that a 28 journeyman is not the answer for our back 5 problemNorthern Raider wrote: ↑April 18, 2021, 9:34 amThe guy is 28 years old and played 35 NRL matches. Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
Hoppa is going ok in reserves (available round 10).
Semi showed potential and is worth another look.
Timoko likewise.
Seb Kris has been among our best players and is also not in the team.
We have a few options for improving our back 5 this year. We aren't using them.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
Our backline currently is the worst in the competition, some would struggle to even make the bulldogs side.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
Cut both our centres and make a big play for Coates and Duffty..
1. Duffty
2. Coates
3. CNK
4. Kris
5. Valema/Timoko/HSS
You'd get 5-6 good years out of that backline...

Both our centres are contracted to at least end 2023 (Croker has an option in his favour for 2024 too).GreenMachine wrote: ↑April 18, 2021, 11:10 am Cut both our centres and make a big play for Coates and Duffty..

Raiders player signing speculation 2021
He is being exposed now. Can’t adjust his play to accomodate style of each game.BadnMean wrote:William's was great last year. What is different this year? Hint: it's not Williams.LastRaider wrote: ↑April 18, 2021, 8:44 am Trade Williams, bring in Reynolds from South’s.

The last 3 games required him to play straight. He either couldn’t read it or doesn’t have the skill, he continued to play sideways and run the backline sweeps out of room. Also Matt called it 2 years ago, he is a running 5/8 not a 7.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
GWilly not playing straight is a major problem with our attack in the 20, sorry
I think with both our halves, their amazing strengths in some areas causes people to overlook their weaknesses in others. You can not have a stunted attack for so long, with the halves not being culpable. The question is how to use those strengths to suit the team in a coherent way (ie gel with the team), and we haven't been able to do that yet

The halves can't do their jobs if the hooker is taking an age to give them the ball.
Add to that the impotent backline, its easy for the opposition to simply put more numbers on our halves and prevent them from running straight.
The only criticism I have of our halves has been the kicking game recently.

George has limited distance on his kicks at best, and then compounds the issue by standing way too shallow to be able to have enough time to put his foot right through it. Watch Nathan Cleary - he's usually well back from the ruck, giving himself plenty.
Jack's radar is similarly off, and I'm also concerned that he's lost distance on his kicks. Really doesn't seem like he can belt them down the ground anymore.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
George parks them down the fullbacks throat, Jack parks them in the carpark

Go check out the panthers NSW cup highlights a couple quality young outside back with a big future there. Tago and May both look very good.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
Teams have been "not signing B Morris because he's past it" since the start of 2019. Could finally be true next year.
Josh looks like he's playing busted at the moment. Definitely not in the form Brett is still in.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
Roosters have only lost one game this season when Brett Morris has been in their side. You do the math, he's worth a punt I'd say
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2021
Teams could do a lot worse than to just camp out the Panthers juniors and take the kids that cant get in
Granted it hasnt panned out paying up big money for DWZ, but that system is going to continue to spit out extremely talented, atheletic edge players... be that forwards or backs

I Started following the Raiders 4 years ago. Love 'em... I'm Just Drawn to them Like Keith Moon to Purple Hearts. Frustrating start to this season but it won't stop me getting up at 5am/6am Every weekend In me Barack Obama's to watch the Raiders.
Ricky Stuart me old china, Please send a few scouts over to look at Warrington Wolves Center Toby King, Jake Connor, a Center/ Stand off/ Fullback at Hull FC, and Winger Tom Johnstone at Wakefield Trinity. IMO 3 Super League players who could stand toe to toe in the superior NRL.
You know it makes sense Ricky my old son. Be Lucky me Canberra Brothers and sisters!
