Don't think he'd want my hamstring. Rigid as a steel rod. Takes 12 hours of stretches before I can break into a jog.

He's definitely no comparison to peak Rapana, but is certainly better than Simonsson and would provide a similar game to what Rapa is giving us now.

Not getting any upgrade on speed though. I reckon Rapana would still have him speedwise. Maumalo is good close to the line and starting sets but hes a bit of a slug.

If we are signing Duffty i think i'd prefer CNK on the wing

Yeah, we are definitely short of pace on the wing.

I'd like to see CNK in the centres as our defence sucks there, but his game under the high ball and with kick returns is definitely more suited to the wing.

If I'm not mistaken, we were pretty close to signing Ken Maumalo a few years back. I actually thought people could get excited by him, particularly when you consider this was the bloke keeping CNK out of firsts. Alas I was wrong

If he’s available we’d be crazy not to sign him…

A back 5 of :

1. Dufty
2. Savage
3. CNK
4. Kris/HSS/Timoko
5. Maumalo

Instant upgrade on what we currently have…
Speed, power, size and ball playing…

Make it happen Don.

I'd be ok with Maumalo
but i think we can do better if we decide to recruit another outside back

Im telling you right now there are 2-3 kids sitting there at penrith right now wondering how the **** they're going to break into FG. Every one of them tremendously gifted. My tip, go and offer Izack Tago a wing spot next year, and dangle the fullback position as a viable option if Dufty doesnt work out.

Maumalo would be a great pickup. The Yin to Savages Yang. Power and speed.

Just posted something similar in the Hodgo thread, I'll put it here since better suited.

If that is true we should be ALL OVER IT. If we get Dufty we improve our speed, support and ball playing- but we get a little smaller. If we can play Savage on a wing next year, with Dufty, we are significantly faster and on even footing with most teams for speed.

Our other back 5 problem is yards. We don't have a really big unit amonst them- just Rapana who is decent size and plays about 10kg heavier through attitude. If we get Maumalo in we solve our yards issue and get some variation in size/style into our back 5.

Also the issue of experience- if we end up with HSS, Savage, Semi (e.g we don't recruit more back 5) or a Penrith rookie/kid in the lineup we have 3 rookies and it's an inexperienced lineup. Things look a lot different with Maumalo who has 100+ NRL games, 13 Test matches and is not old, he's only 26.

1 Dufty, 50+ NRL games. Small, fast, skillful.
2 Maumalo, 100+ NRL games, 10+ Tests. Huge, powerful, experienced.
3 HSS/KRis/Timoko, rookie.
4 CNK, 50+ NRL games. Hard working, safe, decent footwork, good yards.
5 Savage, rookie. Fast.

So we'd have a young back 5 but not an inexperienced one. Good.

Means we can move Scott on if we like as we have CNK who will do a solid shift at centre, judging from his Test performance and play style.

If we are moving Rapa and Scott along the available money would be about right I reckon. Without moving Scott it might need a share of Crokers (with rest going to Dufty/Halfback).

At this point in time though the options are grim in the halves market for 2022. We will at least need to find a way to create space for a 2023 halves recruit but I think we should have a fair bit of room to move for next year in other positions.
