Canberra Raiders hooker Tom Starling is free to train and play round one

Tom Starling had six of seven charges dropped by NSW police at Gosford Local Court on Thursday, following his arrest at a Central Coast restaurant last December. The 22-year-old entered a not guilty plea to the remaining charge of resisting arrest which will be next heard on March 11, the same day the 2021 season kicks off.

He will be permitted to continue training with Canberra and be available for round one selection according to the NRL. He is not subject to the no fault stand down policy.

Yesterday I read an article about this in the SMH and wrote a comment in the comment box. Within a short time the comment box was removed, and remains removed.

I was born and raised in rural NSW, at a time and place where Aussie "Jim Crow"laws were routinely enforced. No drinking with whites in pub bars, no swimming in public pools, restricted areas in picture theatres, etc. Seeing aboriginal kids and older people treated the way Curtis Scott and, seemingly, Tom Starling have been treated was a commonplace. Except charges were NEVER dropped.

Seems that NSW Police have improved in one small way. They are no longer racist in who they decide to fit up.

Used to happen in country Queensland only 20 years ago too, Cranky. My best mate used to get the absolute piss flogged out of him by cops when we'd go out drinking, whereas I'd only ever get escorted to a nice cell and sent home the next day with a warning.

Only difference between the two of us was colour of our skin.

Actually I’d forgotten about my good mate who’s very dark skinned due to his distanced Greek ancestry and his summer work as a pool lifeguard. He was arrested for quietly urinating behind a tree one afternoon, but when starting the paperwork and he answered that he wasn’t Aboriginal, the police quickly apologised, laughed the incident off and let him go immediately. They even gave him a food voucher for dinner and a coffee at a nearby cafe.

Another one I had myself at 17 was being stopped by the police for underage drinking outside Cooleman Court and they were going to seriously pursue it. They then realised that I’d played men’s grade cricket against them and had actually cleaned them up in a recent grand final we’d won.

They then talked cricket, told me not to do it again and let me go. Didn’t even mention it when we next crossed paths on the cricket field.

Only because they’re concerned how a wealthier and connected Dad would react.
I don't at all doubt your reflection on the cops, but I will point out that their are precisely no Inner North private schools. apart from the Boys Grammar kinder thing in Campbell. They are all in south canberra, or radford in bruce, or burgmann in gunghalin.
The ladies of Merici College will be outraged they were not included in your round of of potential police beating miscreants.
I forgot the Catholic ones.... and of course you know the traditional name for Merici - as used even by those who attended...

It is absolutely important to remeber that a good portion of the "thin blue line" are absolutely decent people who go into the job with a thirst and passion to service the community, to serve and protect.

There is also a good portion of the "thin blue line" who are the bullies from HS who needed to find an outlet to feed their need for power and dominion over others.

The culture issues are clearly driven from the top.

There's no wonder this stuff happens when you consider that Mick Fuller has previously told the media that limiting police powers would create a “generation of kids that have no respect for authority” and said young people should have “a little bit of fear” of police. He's also the guy that falsely blamed the Melbourne COVID outbreaks on BLM protests.

It's no wonder those officers on the wrong side of the equation feel empowered to behave the way they do.

I've seen a few posts lately saying Starling had been "cleared", but this was the last update I saw - that 6/7 charges were dropped. Do we know what happened on his court appearance on the 11th March? I still find it odd he pleaded guilty to resist arrest, when all the other alleged "offences" were dropped. What exactly was he being arrested for then? What about the fact he got toweled up? Is he suing them like Curtis Scott did?

I heard that a dozen cops came across a Raiders player sitting on a park bench feeding the pigeons. They got the batons an tasers ready. Realised it was Sia and carefully backed away.

Josh Hodgson's Wests Tigers transfer in doubt after fresh Tom Starling incident

Josh Hodgson’s mooted move to the Wests Tigers is in jeopardy after his understudy Tom Starling found himself in the crosshairs of police on the NSW Central Coast. Starling was spoken to by police after attending the same site where he was involved in an incident late last year.

The NRL confirmed they were aware of the latest incident involving the Raiders rake, who had been earmarked to take over the job on a full-time basis when Hodgson left. That succession plan is now in danger and fresh concerns over Starling’s future may scupper any hopes Hodgson had of leaving.

Big deal if he was "spoken to" by police, by NRL player's standards in 2021 that is barely even newsworthy lol

I resent that. Lloyd acknowledged we'd landed on the moon (30 years late), half the players in the NRL probably think that's a streetlight set up to sell us on a curved Earth myth.
