Canberra Raiders rising star Tom Starling charged with assaulting a police officer in NSW

Rising Canberra Raiders NRL star Tom Starling has been charged with assaulting police during a brawl outside a bar on the NSW Central Coast.

The 22-year-old had cuts across his nose and eye and was carrying bail papers as he emerged from Gosford Police Station this morning.

The Canberra Raiders have been made aware of an incident involving Tom Starling overnight. The club has informed the NRL integrity unit. The club will not be making further comment.

NSW police assaulted; four men charged after brawl at Central Coast licenced restaurant

Four men have been charged after police were allegedly assaulted during a brawl on the Central Coast last night.

The 22-year-old man was charged with assault officer in execution of duty (x5), affray and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

They were all granted conditional bail to appear at Gosford Local Court on Thursday 21 January 2021.

Hope its a case of a brawl happening, he got dragged into it.
The cops and riot squad came in.
And abit of hitting/pushing/shoving the wrong person being a police officer after being grabbed and pulled away going into some sort of self defence head mode.
Because well if its as big of a brawl as they are claiming you wouldnt know whos hitting who and whos grabbing who. And starling might of hit or done something to the police thinking it was someone else, and they then layed into him.

I'm totally having a guess but the damage to the cops hand and the damage to Starlings face may or may not be linked

Wait and see as usual. Looks like next stop at court is January. Can’t imagine it will be a stand down issue unless I’ve missed something? (11 year in jail rule) but just have to make sure his head is in right place.

Whatever the circumstances though, stupidity to put ones self in this situation. These young fellas need solid people around them when out on the drink so that if things do go south a calm head can de-escalate and vacate ASAP.

It's disappointing that he put himself in a position where these sorts of allegations could be made. No doubt that the truth will come out eventually one way or the other. I'll reserve my judgement until then.

5 assault police charges looks unusual/like a good old fashioned load up- according to detective sergeant AFP mate of mine. It's the NSW police default reaction to when they go a bit overboard, we saw it with Scott. So I'll remain skeptical this time. $90 million in payouts it's coming from nowhere.

As it is, Starling will get a fine and probably a few weeks suspension just for being involved and has probably ceded the bench hooking role to Havilii for the early season.

Based on the photos I wouldn't back him in a fight..

You would presume the club has cctv footage ( then again it is called the shady palms) and the cops will have body cam going

Tbh I am surprised noone has leaked smart phone footage by now

For me it comes down to why did he intervene? Were the cops heavy handed with his mate? And what he actually did.

Once again i will wait till the truth comes out before I tar and feather him
