Canberra Raiders set to re-sign Emre Guler to end 2022

Canberra Raiders set to re-sign Emre Guler

The Canberra Raiders are set to lock in young gun Emre Guler for another two years, ensuring they'll keep him on board until at least the end of 2022. The Raiders have also started negotiations to extend fellow forward Hudson Young for another two years to have two key members of their pack signed up until the end of 2023. It is hoped a one-year deal for Jordan Rapana could be wrapped up sometime next week.

Not long enough imo but 2 years is better than none
Think there is a good chance by the time that contract comes up for renegotiation that he'll be one of the better front rowers in the game

I think 2 years is good for both parties. If he's worth more by then, we'll end up paying him regardless (the way things are these days). Better off locking something in now.

Of more interest is the Rapana deal being talked about as a more sane 1 year deal than the 2 year that had a few fans worried about having charity cases on the books in 2022.

I can see a Paul Vaughan type rise on the cards with Guler

Not that sort of player, and I doubt he'll ever play rep.

Good club player though.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

He is a lot better player than Vaughan. The guy will play rep for many years.

He's either going to plateau pretty quickly or grow to be world class.

Great news. Fingers crossed for an injury free couple of seasons.

I remember being a bit fearful of our front row depth a few seasons back, when Papa was still playing second row and it was clear Paulo was on his way back to Sydney. Times have changed a bit.

Guler is about to hit that key point in his development.

Tim Grant plateau or Shillington improvement zone.

I’m tipping the later. But he’d better try and beat Soliola and Lui at every training session. Sky’s the limit.

I hope he does.

Vaughan was explosive, very agile for a big man. Like Haas.

Emre strikes me as more of a Aron Woods / David Shillington sort of player. Does the hard stuff, good PTB and quality defender.

Given our depth in the forwards is he going to get a run? If he doesn't what do we do with him? There is no reserve grade from Emre to prove his worth, as with any of the forwards that are left out.

He certainly is important to re-sign though. Love his attitude.

Our depth in the forwards should not impact Emre Guler.
Papalii, Tapine and Guler are the staples of our middle forward rotation IMO.

Add Young, Sia, HorsPower, James, Lui and our middle looks the goods. We look light on for depth in the second row to me.

Good signing to keep Emre in green for at least 2 more seasons. Well done DFJ and Sticky.

Nice, happy to see Emre extend his time at the Raiders. I am more excited to read the Hudson Young news to be honest. Just like last year I still rate him higher than Guler. But both are good players.

This.

Possibly Hors too as an enforcer

For now yes. I'd still like to see Horse and Guler back up their form again in 2021. Their trajectory is on the right path. Don't want to see any plateau or regression. With Lui, Sia, Young and James on the books next year there's not many gimme spots in the middle.
