You can easily drop 3 games a year through goal kicking if it's not going well.

I think this should come down to trial form but I’ll be bitterly disappointed if his spot isn’t filled by Timoko or HSS

Semi and Simo can fight it out for the wing spot opposite Rapana
Timoko, HSS and Scott should be in an open competition for round 1, 2021

Re goal kicking, I think we need to determine who’s kicking sooner rather than later and making sure we get them some coaching if needed. Don’t want goal kicking costing us early

I reckon all those spots are up for grabs. Not one of those have a mortgage on any position.

Can i say before I comment that I’m not questioning Jarrod whatsoever.
He contributes 200pts to our cause on avg every year and as a centre holds his own every week.

2020 form aside my question is this.

If we had of beat Storm in the prelim would he have played in the GF ?

Probably yes right ?

And then this shoulder surgery story would have broken..

Just throwing this out there.

I've had a torn rotator cuff and you can function with it albeit making it extremely difficult to raise your arm above your head.
You either rehab the muscles around it and never get surgery (what i did) or you do the surgery (usually what professional athletes do).
It would go someway to explaining his arm grabbing antics in that game.
It won't unfortunately explain his lack of speed and crispness with passing this season.
I hope he returns better, we need him given the lack of experience in the backline without him.
His goal kicking is worth 2 games a season for us at the very least, given our clunky attack and general game being centred around defence.

This may explain why he kept coming in off his wing to defend at centre though :D

Well Pig..let’s get him fit and firing. He’d be well aware that he needs to lift.

He’s last few games..injured or not were not the norm, he even said it himself after the Rooters win.

If both semi and simo are serious they should also be fighting to take rapas wing. With the offseason to prepare id be disappointed if timoko and hss arent being prepped for a centre spot and looking to push scott out of the side. Not going to hold this year against scott but i think timokos good enough to take it next year

no chance, adrenaline gets you through till it cools down.
I dislocated mine and blew the rotator apart, the instant pain for 30secs was insane then it settled to a dull ache but the next day I barely had the strength to change gears in my car.
Had surgery, 14 weeks in a sling as mine was at the extreme of where it snapped.
Good now so long as I don't do anything too dumb or roll on it while I sleep

Spot on. You want them competing hard for positions. If Timoko (or anyone) is dominating in opposed sessions, you want them to get the nod - and I think they will. I hope Scott is also fighting hard and makes it very difficult or impossible for Timoko to pass him.

100% agree, that’s how I’d play it.
Open competitions across the board
But I have to say I think Stuart will be a little more conservative. I don’t see Rapana losing out to Simo. I’ve got more than a few question marks on him at this point.

Scott is going to get first crack, I’m fairly sure of that.
I think HSS and Timoko will battle for Croker’s spot. But if both those guys are pushing hard, Scott’s leash will be very short i think

Canberra Raiders co-captain Jarrod Croker says he is aiming to be fit for Round 1 2021, after shoulder surgery

So determined is Jarrod Croker to be fit for round one, the Canberra Raiders co-captain doesn't want to even consider who could come in to cover for him.

"I'm hopeful for round one. I'm a pretty good healer. I don't have many injuries and when I do they heal pretty quickly," he said. "My goal will be to play round one and not give anyone else that first crack."

Croker at a loose end on Melbourne Cup day

In non-unprecedented times, Jarrod Croker would already be in Melbourne for Derby Day and would be ironing the suit in preparation for that rarest of thrills - going to Melbourne Cup Day to watch his horse race.

But given there's no crowds at Flemington this year due to the coronavirus, the Canberra Raiders co-captain's not sure what he'll do when Intuition jumps in the listed MSS Security Sprint (1200 metres) on Tuesday.

Story also says he had a knee problem... bone bruising... so the time he has his shoulder in a brace (six weeks) will help his knee recover. I'd heard he had some sort of groin problem, so the leg injury helps explain some things. Also that Rapana was back in four and a half months after the same surgery, so Rd 1 is possible.

blind freddy could see something was amiss in the back half of the season, his form fell off a cliff and his goal kicking wasn't to his high standard either.

Sounds like a few injuries being carried by Croker, hope he rehabs well and gives next year a big shot.

Interesting to see who is the goal kicker, how about whoever fancies it steps forward and the 4/5/6 spend a few weeks with someone like Halligan and he gives sticky the info on who is the best option

Croker is finished. He cannot keep up and he runs like a snail and probably can’t even bench his own weight. His defence in the finals, in the big games when it matters most, was pathetic. I personally don’t care that he is club captain, won the Ken Stephens medal or that a great bloke, he is a liability and there are better players in his position and if we insist on picking players on loyalty rather than ability we will never win a GF. Same goes for Sia and probably Rapana, why are we carrying all these old blokes, well past their best, into their mid 30s? Hopefully they received pay cuts.

Sigh.

Prior to the finals (one of which he was injured, we discover) Toots Jnr was clearly in the better half/third of FG centres (take any 3 stats of a dozen or so and avg out). This surprised me. He gets a hard call around here sometimes. Considering this is regarded as his worst year of recent times and he was still better than most, for most of the year... then i don't think having an above avg cente who is also in the top 4 goal kickers in the comp is quite the success killer you say.

2019 he was good and noticeably better in big games. 2020 he was avg and had less impressive finals- one with a torn rotator. The injury news abated some of my doubts.

PS> when i lived in Belco I saw him at the gym a lot. Definitely a strong lookin dude irl. Something about the headgear makes him look small on tv.

I'm sorry Croker is injured and look forward to him getting back on the field.

I'm glad that it appears that this was a major contributing factor for some defence lapses in the last few games.

I was beginning to wonder if the bub kept him up all night....and he was dead on his feet.

In what way could a sane person describe losing a well respected captain and leading point scorer (for a decade) as EDIT? That is EDIT, but I'm sure you are better than that.

Harsh on Sia. He's still got it in him IMO, it's just that we've become over stocked in middles.

The point scoring thing is such a joke. I'm not saying Croker should be dropped or anything but it's completely irrelevant that he scores 200 points a year unless your next in line kicker is Mal Meninga level.

It's certainly going to be interesting to see how we run out in round one. Initially I was thinking Ricky likes to play it safe so he will use Scott and Rapana if Croker is injured, and it will ultimately be Timoko vs Smith-Shields for Croker's spot and Simonsson vs Valemei for the vacant wing. But he has shown in some years that he's willing to go a bit left field to start the season. I'm guessing there will be genuine competition in the pre season for those outside back spots.
