Tributes flow for Ray Blacklock, an 'extremely tough' speedster

Tributes have flowed for Ray Blacklock after the former first-grade winger died at the age of 65. A noted speedster, he played 93 matches in the top grade from 1976-84. He made his debut at Penrith, spent two seasons at the Jets before finishing his career at Canberra in 1983-84.

Rugby league legend Ray Blacklock loses brave health battle aged 65:

Ray Blacklock defied the doctors by living five years longer than the experts predicted after succumbing to a horrible disease - but the former Newtown, Penrith and Canberra star finally lost his brave battle early today.

Blacklock was diagnosed with Multi System Atrophy - a horrible and rare neurological disorder that slowly eats away at the body - in 2015.

Scored a try in our first ever win away from home, vs the Sharks in pouring rain.

Rest in peace big fella. You'll always be a part of Raiders history.

That condition sounds absolutely terrifying - I can't imagine what he went through over the past 5 years.

I'm very sad about that. Good player. Was a bit of a shining light for us in our early history.

RIP Ray Blacklock. Good player who brought pace and FG finals experience to a young club. Condolences to his family and friends. I'd not heard much of MSA so went to Dr. Google. What a horrible affliction.

Sad to read of his passing. He was an exciting player to watch.
