Re: The Sportress
Holy hell sorry it took me a while to post here again. My laptop was in the shop for far too long!
Anyway, here's a bunch of stuff:
1. Wrote on the suspensions of the Coreys - it's worse from them than it is for the team. https://sportress.org/2021/03/06/integr ... announced/
2. Rob looked at the jerseys. He doesn't like this year's non-heritage set but they're growing on me https://sportress.org/2021/03/02/the-go ... y-roundup/
3. We had a guest post from dragons fan Matty McP on the absolute schermozzle that is the dragons right now https://sportress.org/2021/03/01/words-of-a-broken-fan/
4. Here's our review of the the trial if you missed that

That is a pretty handy 17 TBH.

Re: The Sportress
How do people view Campese's career in Green?
Aside from an incredible 6-8 week stretch in 2008, I thought he was an average NRL player that was plagued by injuries.
He wore is heart on his sleeve and I loved that about him, but I don't look back at those years he was in the #6 too fondly.

Re: The Sportress
He single handledly dragged us to week 2 in 2010, and if he doesn't blow his knee we beat the Tigers and are in a prelim against the Dragons who we pumped a few weeks earlier

Re: The Sportress
I thought Campo had some golden runs. The two big peak periods mentioned.
My memory is not perfect of those years but I remember he just did enough without ever showing much early on. It was Carney who was going to be the superstar. Campo had a big boot and a solid tackle.
Then Carney did a Carney and I thought we were stuffed. Next thing Campo has grown a leg and dragged the team up with him. He had a strong running game but when he drew defenders he's just rifle a cut out across to Best who suddenly looked like a worldbeater with Campo feeding him.
He was a good player. Injury robbed us of more of his best, but the best he gave us for those years was bloody good I thought. I think he'll always be well regarded for the sheer guts and leadership he showed during what could have been a very dark period after Carney and the way he's always been a natural among the fans.
Bumped into him strolling out of ANZ after the 2019 GF. He was gutted like all of us, but had genuine time and a kind word for everyone.

Yes, my unreliable memories of Campo are good ones. He was one of those players who made others around him perform better than their ceiling had been estimated at. And he was/is such a good bloke.
Re: The Sportress
I'd have Ben Kennedy in that list of 17.

Re: The Sportress
Campo reignited my love of the Raiders. There was a period where I didn’t really care that much about the game. Seeing Campo make this club his own after the Carney fiasco brought me back.
Feel free to call me RickyRicky StickStick if you like. I will also accept Super Fui, King Brad, Kid Dynamite, Chocolate-Thunda... or Brad.

Yep, Kennedy starts for sure. Young to the bench. David Grant must come in too. Havili and Boyd out.RedRaider wrote:I'd have Ben Kennedy in that list of 17.
And to be honest, Carney was a much better footballer than Williams. Jay Hoffman was also a better hooker than Woolford. Hell, Luke Priddis was better than Woolford.

Re: The Sportress
With Campo, it's pretty simple really. From the day Toddy misbehaved and he became the man, and he became the best player in the comp. Yes, I know who some of the other players were in the comp at the time, but as a club player, he was the best in the comp. He was just untouchable in 2010.
The second after that knee injury, he went from God to avg. After the 2nd one, avg to spud.
The rise was quicker than the fall, but only because of the recovery time.
