Re: 2020 Finals Week 1 V Sharks: Game Day
We must improve
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I agree.GreenMachine wrote:Where would we be without these halves?
Jack and George have been immense all year.
Lui, Young and Havilli really changed the game for us.
CNK and Tapine were great.
That bench injection was very noticeable.
Ran straight and ran with purpose.

Very weird game for a final. We were quite off the boil but still won comfortably enough in the end
Great games from Jack, George and Tapine. Tapine should be winning set resets like half the time he's so hard to tackle

Touches of class won us the game despite being well off our best. We will be in it up to our earballs next week though - guaranteed.

Really just good to get out of that with a nice, in the end easy win
The sharks always worry me, and they worried us tonight
On to next week and we’ll be significant underdogs and rightly so
But let’s just win anyways

Re: 2020 Finals Week 1 V Sharks: Game Day
We did what we had to do - Win. Now onto next week. Jack limping after that chase and dive. Hopefully he will be ok. Every kick he put in the Sharks put him on the ground so he could not kick chase.
Courage play of the night to JC. He has taken a conversion so was last into position. The Sharks miss kick or short kick and he kept in the air to take it under pressure and was tackled in the air so penalty to Raiders.
Sharks up to their usual scragging tactics. Also from one kick off they were 10 mtrs closer to the Western touchline than center field. They got away with one but then Ref pulled them up.
Both halves and Tapine easily best on field for mine. We will have to improve a lot by next week. Some gang tackling but not consistent enough with it.

Raps had a very poor game with 3 errors that lead to one try against us. Need to think where Raps fits into the side. Three failings in this game; didn't come up in defence, didn't put pressure on the kickers and Raps is not suited at centre!
It's a simple game; tackle, back-up, pass, hold the ball! What did I say? "Hold the bloody ball!!"

I reckon Jack will cop some dressing room banter after his intercept chase. It could be along the lines of "Papa would have got him."

Re: 2020 Finals Week 1 V Sharks: Game Day
That was a really great play. He was heads up and knew exactly what they were going to do and the take was clutch. That grubber for Whitehead's try was really nice too.
Tapine was an absolute beast. I still have no idea how he scored that try and I will probably replay it a dozen times to make sure. I thought for sure he was stopped. He made big runs all night.
Shout-out also to Hudson who I thought had an excellent game, ran some mostly good lines, made the break, and okay, he dropped a couple but he was still really good.
Nami was brilliant, Papa was good, our forward pack did their job pretty well. The backline was all over the shop. And the first thing Semi does all week is drill catching and RUNNING FORWARD. Both the times he was bundled were as a result of him running a backwards arc after catching.
I probably have more thoughts but I am tired. All else I can say is that if we play like that next week we are toast. The Roosters won't let us get away with giving them that much ball.

All to predictable unfortunately. Probs worst game since Manly this year.
Got the win and go back to being underdogs next week with all the talk about Roosters blah blah.
We are way better than tonight’s game and I hope stick calls a spade a spade publicly.
Our turn for an ambush next week...

Re: 2020 Finals Week 1 V Sharks: Game Day
Really similar to the Warriors game, frankly. In both games we were ordinary for 40, grabbed an intercept try on the break to turn momentum and then were comfortably good enough in the second half.
Jack, George and Tapine outstanding. Head and shoulders above the rest of the squad tonight IMO, though CNK, Young and Croker had some nice moments.
I would start Bateman at right centre next week. I think with a week of planning from Trent Robinson and Luke Keary we'll get destroyed if we persist with Rapana. We have very little fluency in attack on that side anyhow, I would play the combo which has the least chance of conceding points - and for me that has Bateman in the centres.

MATCH REPORT: Jack Wighton inspires Canberra Raiders to Grand Final rematch with win over Cronulla Sharks
Jack Wighton is in Clive Churchill Medal form as the Canberra Raiders head into a grand-final rematch against the Sydney Roosters.
The Raiders again proved to be the kings of the second half as they ran over the top of the Cronulla Sharks to win 32-20 to earn a spot in a semi-final at the SCG - probably on Friday.
CANBERRA RAIDERS 32 (Jack Wighton 2, George Williams 2, Joe Tapine, Elliott Whitehead tries; Jarrod Croker 4 goals) bt CRONULLA SHARKS 20 (Ronaldo Mulitalo, Blayke Brailey, Sione Katoa tries; Chad Townsend 4 goals) at Canberra Stadium. Referee: Grant Atkins. Crowd: 9602.

Jack Wighton carves up Cronulla Sharks
Jack Wighton won his first Mal Meninga Medal during the week. It won't be his last.
Canberra's star man sensed his moment early in the second half and scored an opportunistic try that wrested complete control of the match from Cronulla.

12 months ago he was the guy a lot of us were saying maybe a high priced player that we could easily offload to eleviate cap pressure because he was constantly hurt, suspended and lacked consistencyafgtnk wrote: ↑October 3, 2020, 8:08 pmHe has. Now? He's the heir to Papalii's throne
At 26, he's the guy we're going to be trying to build the next 5-7 years of this forward pack around.

Despite the 32-20 scoreline it was actually our defense that won the game. Spent so much time in our own half and only missed 17 tackles and conceded 1 try. The other 2 tries were from attacking errors.

I know it is very late in the season to make such a big change but I would advocate doing this too.twistedbydesign wrote: ↑October 3, 2020, 9:20 pm I would start Bateman at right centre next week. Re: 2020 Finals Week 1 V Sharks: Game Day
We will need luck next week. We will have to be aggressive with the ball - offload quite a bit and hope it sticks.
Melbourne is a winnable game if we get to them though.
