I'd start with CNH. Not because he deserves it as the jury's out whether he will be a successful buy or another Scott. He's unfit and needs a run. You're being harsh on Havili. I was angry with his drop but he had some good runs. Maybe O'Donnell to replace Papa. He needs a break anyway. Guler won't be ready according to Stuart. I'm tempted with Timoko replacing Scott but given it's Lomax let's leave Scott in. But I did recall Scott replacing Oldfield and both had shockers against Lomax and Euan.

Not too sure that there will be much to learn out of this game.

Lose and it will be another reason why we can’t win the comp this year if we can’t dispose of rubbish sides.

Narrow win and it is another example of playing down to poor opposition.

Comfortable win and it just reinforces that we are clearly better than the lower placed sides, without doing much else.

That roosters loss wasn’t surprising, but it was quite disheartening. In my mind it shifted our premiership chances from “possible” to “unlikely”.

I'm not giving up yet - we still have 3 weeks to get it right over sides we should beat. If Papa is out for the season then we can have a mad Monday after the first week of the finals. It was disheartening by the fact this was a clash to decide top 4 against the side that beat us in the GF last year, but we played so poorly.

I still have hope but like you say, it's unlikely to happen. Even Michael Maguire from Wests has hope they will make the semis! Canterbury were terrible in 1995, finished 6th but somehow scrapped a narrow win over St George in the first week of the semis, then knocked out Brisbane (3rd) and us (2nd) before winning against Manly in the GF, who were the best side all year with 2 losses all year. We now play with no pressure in the finals as no one is expecting us to win except in the first week. I'm even unsure whether we could beat Souths with our display today. Everyone can see our attack has been a problem all year - Cronk said so after today's game, but I don't know what measures Stuart is doing to fix it.

How is it unlikely 🤣 when in form we are 100% in the top 3 o 4 teams in the comp.. as we showed once again in the first half last night. We have been no where near our best this year and yet we have still be in and around the top 4 for the majority of the season.... What does that tell you?? If you can't work it out, you can't be helped. We are yet to hit our peak this year which is a good thing. Oh how people have short memories. People were saying the exact same things about us last year. Can't attack, Ricky can't coach etc etc. The same **** talk that constantly gets proven wrong. We are yet to peak and Ricky will have us peaking when it matters most (just like he did last year).

Amen

We still can finish in the top 4, hopefully warriors beat the eels today, and Penrith beat the eels next week.

I said “in my mind” it shifted our premiership chances from possible to unlikely. It is just my opinion, but it is hardly an outrageous one.

As I said, we are a good team and on our day we can knock off the elite sides. But I think it is a tall order to expect us to do that 3 weeks in a row (4 if we miss the top 4).

If you think that our premiership chances are higher than unlikely then I salute your optimism, and I hope you’re right

I know it won’t happen but I would like to see both Timoko and HSS in our backline this week. We need to start giving these kids game time and hope that they become stars very quickly

I dunno. Can you be "nowhere near our best" all year and still lay claim to having another, unseen, best...

Start CHN. Young shares lock minutes with him from the bench.

Tapine as bench prop. Sutton and Lui starting props.

Bit disappointed with CHN so far, I understand there's an issue regarding fitness, but he's had a few games now under his belt but he still played a similar length of time as SBW. Also not as good as I recall him playing for Penrith or Bulldogs at the end of last year running onto Kieran Foran's passes

CHN is an edge backrower and always will be. Playing him in the middle don't work. We won't see his best until next year when he replaces Bateman on an edge.

Exactly what I was going to post. When you're 17 rounds into the season and shown very little potency in attack, perhaps the realistic conclusion is that we're just not a good attacking side anymore and there are no more gears in this 2020 team.

That's what we get from an in form Hodgo. He wasn't at his best prior to injury which has made us underestimate the impact of his loss.

Best and worst scenarios for each team after round 17

Raiders (5th, 22 points)
Best/worst case: 3rd to 8th

Plenty of toughness on show but failed to offer much threat against the back-to-back premiers with a top-two finish officially falling out of reach.

A small knock in the same spot can re aggravate the injury apparently, would be silly to play him this weekend imo. Give him the week off and bring him back for Warriors.
