Raiders signing coup

Fresh from their signing of Kiwi Test forward Corey Harawira-Naera, Canberra are confident of announcing the acquisition of Ryan James, the Gold Coast club captain, within days. James, who is currently recovering from a knee reconstruction, has agreed in principle to a two-year deal.

James is in the process of undergoing a final medical check by the Raiders and has knocked back interest from the Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Storm, and will take a massive pay-cut to join the Raiders. The two-year deal is worth around $400,000 for the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

I guess with Fifita signing on mega dollars they have to lose 23 players from their 30 man squad...

I reckon this means we're losing another middle forward for next year.

The only one I can think of is Sia.

I like him at his best but that was about 3 or 4 years ago. Hopefully he can get back to that form.

Yes. Id be very surprised if sia hasn't played his last game. Hard to see. Him coming back from that injury.

The money seems pretty fair. I think this is a pretty good signing

When did he do his ACL? Will he be available later this year?

It was only 2 years ago he was close to origin, Titans need to shed some cap very good signing.

Proctor, Boyd, Cartwright can all go and have plenty left in the bank for more high profile players.

Good call from Mal to go hard at Fifita.

I like this move.
If he gets fit, he’s a very handy player in the squad.
Can’t fault our recruitment of late.

He could potentially replace Sia both on and off the field.

I heard he’s coming to Canberra to take on a public speaking gig.

Hopefully he can bounce back from the ACL. His experience will be good in what has some promising youngsters coming through.

Middles: Papalii, Guler, Horsburgh, Tapine, Sutton, Lui, James and Havili. Soliola TBA and Young, O'Donnell and Medlyn other options for the middle.

With Whitehead and CNH our 11 and 12 and Tapine, Young and O'Donnell providing back up I really like the looks of our pack.

Our backline is what concerns me... we have players however they are all adequate and no genuine game breakers ala Leilua and Cotric (the latter to some extent). I hope we go hard in the player market to secure one or better yet hope HSS is the real deal.

Quality player in his prime. Not sure what he's like now after being injured for most of last season. Hope this isn't another Brett White for us.

Can he play right centre? Only joking,obviously a replacement for Sia,I wonder how long the contract will be?

Depth in our middle has been my biggest concern last year and this year.

Pending medical, this could be our most important signing of all.

Ryan James is an absolute gun player!
Make no mistake this guy is top shelf.

Held back by ordinary teams, ordinary coaching and recent injuries. He’s had some horrible luck so far in his career.

He should have won the Dally M medal in 2016. Was a Jarryd Hayne-esc year from him, but as a front rower. Robbed of more votes and higher polling because he wasn’t a media darling and was in an ordinary team.

I rate james. Very dangerous player. Titans are a different team with him in it. The issue is obviously injuries. Hope these are behind him
