Canberra Raiders V Sea Eagles
Sunday June 21 4:05pm
Campbelltown Stadium
TV coverage: Nine, Fox League Channel 502
Radio: ABC, Mix 106.3

The Canberra Raiders had an ugly win over the Wests Tigers in Round 5, and now head to Campbelltown Stadium again next week for a clash with the Manly Sea Eagles. The Raiders will be without John Bateman (shoulder surgery), but Hudson Young will be available after serving suspension. The Raiders had a number of players suffering head knocks in the Tigers' match, including Jack Wighton, Joe Tapine and Jordan Rapana.

So who would you like to see line up for the Green Machine in Round 6? Tell us your team here and see how you go in comparison to the official squad when announced. We will include the official line ups in the first post of this thread as soon as they're available.

Id like to see Guler or sutton start over lui. We had zero go forward and manly won't be as kind if we give a ton of field possession

Outside of that same team with Corey in

Manly have had the wood on us...
Also playing at Campbeltown at 4pm won’t help.
We really need the green light to play in Canberra.

Sutton just has to start. When he came on he dragged the intensity of the others up with him. We're not going to beat Manly being timid, and it's going to be a forward battle.

I'm very close to dropping Scott. He slightly redeemed himself with some good carries out of our end. Last chance saloon.

Tempted to move Cotric to centre but feel he is our most in form back so hesitant.

Sutton to start @ 13.

How's HSS these days?

I don't think you're alone in that thinking Butters. Scott got a tad unlucky with that ball bouncing straight out of the palm of his hand but he just doesn't seem to have his head in the game like he did at the Storm.
If I could pick a junior out of the pack for a debut it would be Timoko. When we went in to lock down he was the form development player, but I don't think at the moment he is eligible.

A spell after 3 matches? He must be the most unfit centre in the comp. You do realize that a spell is just going to make him go backwards seeing as everyone just came back from having 2 months off and there is no reserve grade...?

14 havilli
15 tapine (back to middle rotation)
16 lui guler or sia
17 simonson?

The teams actually hard to put together for next week. While it seemed like we were short of depth last week, this week we have to leave out 2 genuine top grade forwards.

Unfortunately every time we don’t carry a back on the bench we get burned. Case that sticks in my head was Manly at Brooky last year when Raps did rib cartilage. It messed us up.
Interestingly Stick flagged the rotation policy to keep people fresh, fringeys fit and everyone hungry.
Minimise the changes from a winning team but I’d have horse in and spell Lui probably. Sia is way better from the bench he brings punch. Sutton deserves to keep his spot. Was strong last night I thought other than the one error.

Yeah I'm keeping a back on the bench. Even last night it had the potential to derail us when Raps and CNK went off with HIA. It makes sense considering our forwards are fit and agile and can punch out big minutes.

1. CNK
2. Rapana
3. Croker
4. Scott (needs to shape up)
5. Cotric
6. Wighton
7. Williams
8. Papalii
9. Hodgson
10. Soliola
11. Tapine
12. Whitehead
13. Horsburgh

14. Havili
15. Guler

Also Havili is an underrated player aye. Good, direct runner of the ball and certainly not afraid of a few tough carries.

This is how I'd run on next week. Soliola to lead the way early with Sutton and Horsburgh to take the early sting out of the Manly middles. Then Papa to make the most of that with Guler and Havili. Rapana starts again as he and Cotric will be vital coming out of our own end to start sets.

Massively underrated. Insurance for Hodgo but great for punch, directness and energy when he comes on.
He’s the starting hooker in a very competitive Tongan international team and we are lucky to have that level of player who is versatile and willing to play his role as a bench rotation.

He was fantastic yesterday. Him, Sutton and Guler made a huge difference.

I see the usual crowd is coming for Lui, but I thought he did a pretty decent job yesterday. That tackle where he forced the error late in the game was HUGE.

I think for now we keep Scott. But the warning must be in place that he's got to pick up.

But the complicating factor I brought up last week but could be even more relevant this week is the potential for Croker to miss this game. Let's hope not - we need him against a team like Manly, but it may be unavoidable.
And to all the people who doubted me, hello to them as well. - Mark Webber, Raiders Ballboy and Unluckiest F1 Driver Ever

I'm attacking in the right way, instead of just...attacking in the general direction. - Max Aaron (also eerily apropos for the Green Machine)

The problem with Lui isn't that he always plays badly, it's that he has such a low ceiling. He's not big, fast, or skillful.

In the context of having plenty of other options in our forwards stable, playing Lui all the time is an opportunity cost issue. So whatever he does in a game has to be measured against what our other options would have done given the same number of opportunities. Generally speaking, players with higher ceilings will yield better outcomes (over time) than players with low ceilings...simple as that.

Very worried about this game. But we've always been close even during last year's losses to the Beagles - and the game in Canberra played right into their spoiling tactics with the crap refereeing.

Lui is what he is.

According to NRL.com as far as middle third players go for yardage

Papalii 14 runs for 144m
Lui 7 runs for 67m
Havili 9 runs for 83m
Guler 13 runs for 141m
Sia 8 runs 73m
Sutton 12 runs for 122m

Lui was probably no worse than say Sia but his output is poor for a starting prop. Would he be starting at any of the sides that could loosely be called the good teams ? His post contact metres were pretty poor and he had the slowest play the ball speed (equal slowest with Papalii to be fair) of all the forwards besides hodgson who is a hooker and would be expected to be out wrestled from time to time because of the size he gives up.

Now in fairness to him he is a solid defender and he doesn't miss many tackles. I just think in attack his impact just isn't brilliant. He's not awful but when we are getting pumped in field possession every week his impact had to be questioned

Agreed Soliola has looked off the pace thus far. I feel as though his impact is generally the same regardless of starting or not though. Sutton is notoriously better starting however he was very strong last night off the bench.
