Clearly Strongest 17
1. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (c)
2. Nick Cotric
3. Jarrod Croker (c)
4. Peter Hiku
5. Adam Pompey
6. Jack Wighton
7. George Williams
8. Josh Papalii
9. Tom Starling
10. Tohu Harris
11. John Bateman
12. Elliot Whitehead
13. Joseph Tapine

14. Jazz Tevaga
15. Hudson Young
16. Ryan Sutton
17. Dunamis Lui

Tohu has been playing mostly middle all year, and while Im happy to oblige his #13 superstition, im not putting him in 12 when he is actually playing prop. So that solves the reshuffle of the players.

Given I want Starling playing 60+ at hooker, Im happy to run Jazz and my depth there. He is a better version of Havili anyway.

Not Matt's Matchups Round 20: Cronulla Sharks V Canberra Raiders

Integrety. It's not a word you'd associate with this thread. Hell I probably don't even know how to spell it. When I see coaches taking the easy way out I too long for the zimpler path. So rather than the best I bring you the matchups.

Rules for Not Matt's Matchups
1. Skins are not selected on form. Form is temporary. Class is forever.
2. Injury rule – No player that plays is injured so why even have a rule for it.
3. NRL debutants – We've got plenty.
4. 'Milford Rule' – 2 big macs per customer. 1 coupon per purchase. No stairs.
5. No draws allowed. Just take some responsibility for once in your life and make a choice.

Sharks V Raiders

William Kennedy 1. Adam Cook
Nene Macdonald 2. Semi Valemei
Mawene Hiroti 3. Matthew Timoko
Jesse Ramien 4. Harley Smith-Shields
Ronaldo Mulitalo 5. Nick Cotric
Wade Graham © 6. Matt Frawley
Connor Tracey 7. Sam Williams ©
Braden Hamlin-Uele 8. Dunamis Lui
Blayke Brailey 9. Tom Starling
Aaron Woods 10. Sia Soliola
Briton Nikora 11. Hudson Young
Siosifa Talakai 12. Corey Harawira-Naera
Toby Rudolf 13. Siliva Havili

Interchange
Scott Sorensen 14. Kai O'Donnell
Jack Williams 15. Ryan Sutton
Andrew Fifita 16. Darby Medlyn
Teig Wilton 17. Jarrett Subloo

Extended Bench
Billy Magoulias 18. Ata Mariota
Braydon Trindall 19. Joseph Tapine
Bryson Goodwin 20. Jack Wighton
Daniel Vasquez 21. Elliot Whitehead

(Bolded players are the winners of the skin. The extended bench is excluded. Why would I include it so you have to read it and then not skin it you say? Seems like a bit of a power trip? Maybe a touch lazy? Probably.)

Fullbacks:
Kennedy came into grade nervous as hell but he's developed a good pass and can find a hole. Cook doesn't even have a profile picture.

Wingers:
Macdonald was once a good player. Peaked before his time. Valemei came alive last week with that intercept and barge over the line. We're going to need his confidence high now we're going into the finals without Scott.
Mulitalo is a massive wanker but he can play. Cotric is better, even if he is a touch down on form right now.

Centres:
Hiroti and Ramien aren't terrible players. Well I guess if you take into account salary then Ramien is. Do they excite me? No not at all. The Raiders kids run hard, hit hard and are full of enthusiasm. I can't wait to see them out there.

Halves:
Graham edges out Frawley in a tight one. Williams provides a kicking game in contrast to Wade's Boot of the Seven Tackles.
Tracey is a good runner. Should have been playing 6.
It's great to see Williams get the captaincy nod. For a guy that has often been asked to play a supporting role on and off the field it's a big achievement. He joins a list with other great Raider's captains we can be proud of like Mal Meninga, Alan Tongue and Josh Hodgson.

Prop:
BHU has got some great plays in him but seems to be getting worn down a bit. Has got a drop ball and an errant offload. Can be slow in the ruck.
Nami is your example first grade prop for the younger guys coming up. Runs hard, defends hard. Keeps it tight.
Let's be honest no one likes Aaron Woods. Even Billy Slater's mother loves Sia. Welcome back, old friend.
Kai O'Donnell hasn't looked out of place but the numbers just aren't there. Sorensen has played a good support role for the sharks.
Ryan Sutton could be starting for a number of teams this weekend. It's a no contest against Jack Williams who can't hold onto the ball.
Fifita is a shadow of his former self, but it's quite a large shadow. Let's just hope Darbs never has to tackle him 1 on 1.

Hooker/utility:
Tom Starling continues to impress. He edges out Blayke Brailey who provides quality service but not quite the impact or defense Tom is.
Haven't really rated what I've seen of Teig he's still coming into grade. Jarrett we haven't seen at all so this is going to have to be decided by who has the most ridiculous name. Clearly it's Jarrett Subloo.

Backrow:
Nikora has gone backwards this year. Has started to pick back up again as the season has progressed. Even his best this year hasn't been as dynamic as Young.
Talakai is a bulldozer but he doesn't have the classy touch of CHN.
Havili has had his role cut in half. Rudolf looks like a guy the sharks can bank on for a quality career. Kid is great.

Result
The tally is Sharks 5 and Raiders 12. This comes as a surprise to no one. Even our reserve grade side is better than theirs. It'll be won and lost on the edges. Raiders by plenty.

Predicted Score: Raiders (by 13+).

Matts Matchups

William Kennedy 1. Adam Cook
Nene Macdonald 2. Semi Valemei
Mawene Hiroti 3. Matthew Timoko (Tough call, I like Matty, but he is a 1 gamer. Mawene Hiroti has 6 NRL games, but only 1 this yr)
Jesse Ramien 4. Harley Smith-Shields
Ronaldo Mulitalo 5. Nick Cotric (very close TBH, I think he makes the QLD squad, and might even get a game this yr. Nick should come looking for some more ball, and maybe we should go right more often)
Wade Graham © 6. Matt Frawley
Connor Tracey 7. Sam Williams ©
Braden Hamlin-Uele 8. Dunamis Lui
Blayke Brailey 9. Tom Starling
Aaron Woods 10. Sia Soliola (I hate Sharon, very overrated, but he has been pretty good for the Sharks this yr, taking a good chunk of Fifi's role)
Briton Nikora 11. Hudson Young
Siosifa Talakai 12. Corey Harawira-Naera
Toby Rudolf 13. Siliva Havili

Interchange
Scott Sorensen 14. Kai O'Donnell
Jack Williams 15. Ryan Sutton
Andrew Fifita 16. Darby Medlyn (even busted, he is better than a rookie)
Teig Wilton 17. Jarrett Subloo (you obviously missed the story about Tieg being Morris's nephew, oh... and that he 4 NRL games)

Not quite my friend.

FB - agree

Wing - Macca vs Valemei - Rule #1 - "past it" doesnt comply with rule 1.

CTR - 6 gamer vs 1 gamer, ok, pick who you like. Ramien - Rule 1, class forever, Rule 3, debutant, and Rule 4, loves a burger, all broken.

Halves - agree

Prop - agree with Fifi and Soro.
BHU, tougher, but this guy was a Fifi/AFB clone last yr, and hasnt been far down on that this yr, therefore Rule 1.
I agree with the 'liking factor' (well, dislike) in regards to Woods, BUT, rule 1 (more rep games than Sia) and rule 4.

Hooker - agree

BR - Nikora, agree with the description, agree with the pick, but I think you break Rule 1, as 'class' has 'runs on the board' having played for NZ. Rudolf is exactly the same; agree with the description, agree with the pick, but I think you break Rule 1, as 'class' has 'runs on the board' for Liva having played for Tonga.
Ironically, the Talaki pick is the reverse - i agree with the description, not the pick, but you meet Rule 1. Having heard CHN's interview on Behind the Limelight, id say Rule 4 is a dead heat though.

Zimply the best Finals Week 1: Canberra Raiders vs Cronulla Sharks

Guidelines
1. Pick the strongest 17 you can by combining the Raiders and their opponents for this round.
2. If a player is listed in this week's 21 they can be in your 17.
3. Players can slot into any position you can realistically justify (eg played well there before / rep level / similar role already).
4. All players picked are considered fully fit. Someone coming back after being out for 6 weeks does not need to be nursed back in.
5. Having a bad 2 weeks shouldn't keep a test player making the 17.

This week's team lineups can be seen here:
https://thegh.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=34262

Clearly Strongest 17
1. Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad
2. Nick Cotric
3. Jarrod Croker (c)
4. Jordan Rapana
5. Sione Katoa
6. Jack Wighton
7. George Williams
8. Josh Papalii
9. Tom Starling
10. Joseph Tapine
11. Wade Graham (c)
12. Elliot Whitehead
13. John Bateman

14. Blayke Brailey
15. Siosifa Talakai
16. Toby Rudolph
17. Dunamis Lui

Spine
Nicoll-Klokstad and Kennedy are different types of fullbacks. One is all about effort and breaking tackles. The other is more of a provider. Even though a lot of sides would like to take advantage of a ball playing fullback what Charnze brings in defense, tackle breaks and runs out of trouble fair exceeds his opposite. If both were playing last week with the juniors CNK would have led as one of the best on ground. Kennedy had a bad game.
Wighton and Williams got to enjoy a week off, capped with well deserved TheGH player of the year awards. Wighton even picked up a coveted Meninga Medal. Both have played pivotal roles in our march to the finals. Sharks playmakers Tracey and Townsend are outmatched right across the board.
Tom Starling just keeps getting better. That dummy and run with a chip to Sam Williams was something special. Brailey brings a better kicking game and his service is real crisp. Starling is having a bigger impact on games in the back end of the season.

Backs
Cotric had a strong game against the Sharks and helped show the "kids" how it's done with some tough carries early on. Hard to believe he's still only 21.
Sione Katoa has been one of the sharks best players this season. He's good for almost 1 spectacular put down a game so we'll have to be on our toes.
There's one thing Croker loves almost as much as kicking goals and that's smashing Josh Dugan. The skipper turns up for the big games and in front of a home crowd he'll be raring to go.
Rapana has fixed his defensive issues at centre. He and Ramien stack up really closely and a month ago if you had to choose a centre for this it would have been Ramien but the improvement in Rapana at centre lets you select the experience.
Mulitalo is a flashy player but he has the tendency to come up with a bad error at the wrong time. His diamonds haven't outweighed his rocks. Much like Kennedy this is a guy you would have expected more from last week but he just crumpled.

Forwards
The 2 big bookends for this week's round are the platform we've built the backend of our season off. Papalli just wrapped up his fourth Meninga Medal. Tapine has averaged 160 damaging metres over the last 6 weeks.
The only sharks forward approaching these guys is Aaron Woods but there's a calmness about his work that's just a little out of place in a do or die final.

Back Row
Before rest week Whitehead put the team on his shoulders and carried them over the line against the warriors. His full array of skills were on show as he chipped, passed and chundered his way to one of his best performances in green.
Wade Graham has been a bit down on form this year and I was tempted to move him on but he always has a big game play in him. A big hit there, an offload there. You could play Bateman in the second row instead and choose another metre eater at lock. However, in this team Bateman rounds out the back row to tie down that middle and do that awkward thing he does around the ruck.

Bench
Blayke Brailey comes on to give Starling a rest and provide some energy out of the ruck.
Siosifa Talakai is a human wrecking ball. He's the x-factor off the bench in this team. I seriously considered going with Braden Hamlin-Uele but his form (and numbers) over the backend of the competition have been poor in attack and defense. Big guy looks like he needs a rest.
Toby Rudolph plays with a lot of heart and he backs it up with impact. He won't die wondering out there and he knows how to get a quick play the ball.
Dunamis Lui provides the solid defense and leadership we'll need when we've got the other 2 balls of energy out there. He's fresh off posting career best run metres.
Hudson Young has been in great form but in a choice between him and Talakai I went with the guy I thought could give me the biggest impact in the shortest time.

So would I mate. He made it into my best 17 above. In the old match-up format Lui's numbers just don't stack up to Woods.

Zimply the best Finals Week 2: Sydney Roosters vs Canberra Raiders

Guidelines

This week's team lineups can be seen here:
https://thegh.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=34279

Clearly Strongest 17
1. James Tedesco
2. Daniel Tupou
3. Jack Wighton
4. Joseph Manu
5. Nick Cotric
6. Luke Keary
7. George Williams
8. Josh Papalii
9. Jake Friend (c)
10. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves
11. Boyd Cordner (c)
12. Elliot Whitehead
13. Joseph Tapine

14. Tom Starling
15. Angus Crichton
16. Siosiua Taukeiaho
17. Lindsay Collins

Busy week so a quick one.
Didn't feel right leaving Williams out so I've shifted Wighton into the centres.
Bateman was competing for a spot on the bench but doesn't fill the role like the other guys chosen.
Lui was competing with Taukeiaho but doesn't quite have the same pedigree. Likewise with Young and Crichton.
Collins was outstanding against the panthers and really adds that size off the bench. You could start someone else at lock and move Taps to the bench for your impact but he's just been too good to bench.

Zimply the best Finals Week 3: Melbourne Storm vs Canberra Raiders

Guidelines

This week's team lineups can be seen here:
https://thegh.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=34290

Clearly Strongest 17
1. Cameron Munster
2. Josh Addo-Carr
3. Jarrod Croker
4. Justin Olam
5. Nick Cotric
6. Jack Wighton
7. George Williams
8. Josh Papalii
9. Cameron Smith (c)
10. Jesse Bromwich
11. John Bateman
12. Elliot Whitehead
13. Joseph Tapine

14. Ryan Papenhuyzen
15. Brandon Smith
16. Dale Finucane
17. Nelson Asofa-Solomona

Was really hard to put this bench together. Young and Lui hard to leave out. Tino also.
Both sides have a wealth of middle talent with some weakness on the edges.
Bromwich living a little on reputation but you back experience.
When Papenhuyzen comes on at fullback Munster goes to 5/8 and Wighton moves to right centre.
