AIS shuts down possibility of forming part of an NRL cocoon in Canberra
The AIS have shut down any chance of the NRL coming to Canberra to set up a coronavirus-free cocoon. Canberra Raiders chief executive Don Furner is part of the NRL's Operation Apollo and raised the AIS as an option
"That's fine [the AIS aren't an option], there's only one way to find out," Furner said. "We haven't got to that point yet. "If it's not there, it could be somewhere else. You've got to look at all options.

Re: AIS shuts down possibility of forming part of an NRL cocoon
Well, that sucks. I read the following on NRL.com and got excited:
"Canberra's AIS facilities and neighbouring GIO Stadium has also been presented as an option in the same scenario, while other ideas tabled include a wildcard weekend format so that 10 teams could potentially qualify for the final series."
Instead, we get this as reported in the Canberra Times:
"The AIS campus is closed to public and high-performance training at the moment," an AIS spokesperson said.
"When the AIS re-opens, the immediate priority on site will be to help prepare Australia's Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games athletes, especially with a focus on next year's Tokyo Games."

Some people talk about the weather. Others do something about it.

Put them in SEQ and play out of Suncorp and CBus.
There are plenty of empty hotels on the Gold Coast and Brisbane. There are plenty of closed gyms and playing fields.
There is still limited community spread in SEQ. If they are set up in hotels and only allowed to travel to the gym, playing fields and games, the risk to the public and themselves is minimal.

Josh Papalii happy to live in NRL cocoon to end Canberra Raiders drought
The missus might not be happy, but Josh Papalii is willing to do anything to end the Canberra Raiders' 26-year premiership drought. Even go into an NRL cocoon in Queensland.
"I'm willing to do anything to win the comp and I'm pretty sure the Canberra Raiders are willing to move away for a few weeks to try and pursue that," he said.

Re: Josh Papalii happy to live in NRL cocoon to end Canberra Raiders drought
This could absolutely happen, with next to no risk to the rest of the community. It makes no sense to consider the NRL a high risk activity, especially while every man and his dog go out and shop at Woolies on the weekend - that's where our biggest cause of concern is.
I don't give a **** what is happening in the UK, USA or Europe either. Most of those places are up the creek when it comes to this disease. Our situation doesn't even compare.
Let people stay at home and watch the footy before every single season of every series on Netflix is done!
