Major sponsor Huawei vow to stick by Canberra Raiders

The Canberra Raiders' longest-standing major sponsor has vowed to stand by the NRL club through the coronavirus pandemic.

"Huawei Australia knows what it's like to go through tough times and just as the Canberra Raiders stuck by us during our toughest times we will stick by them now as well," Huawei Australia director of corporate and public affairs Jeremy Mitchell said.

I think we're pretty lucky that majority of our sponsors won't be too affected

Canberra Raiders get good sponsorship news in tough times

First Huawei pledged their ongoing support to the Canberra Raiders, then more followed.

"That was really good news. You need positives in times like this and that was fantastic of [Huawei] to do that and some others have too, which is great," CEO Don Furner said. "Denman Prospect, a local one, said, 'We're sticking by you'. I literally got off the phone from Richard Rolfe at Audi who said, 'Mate we're sticking by you'.

As much as I'll never use a Huawei phone, I have to both appreciate their support of the Raiders and admire their tenacity.

Banned from 5G. Crippled Android mobiles caused by US sanctions. Still - they soldier on in Australia.

The one I have is a hybrid android Huawei OS and it's very good.

There is benefits from being a family run club like ours that rely heavily on local connections and influence.
Probably not a factor in the Huawei sticking by us, but im sure it helps with the Rolfe Audi's of our sponsorship world

Huawei Australia would like to announce that despite the ongoing uncertainty caused by the suspension of the 2020 National Rugby League (NRL) season due to the COVID-19 outbreak that we will continue to fulfill our major sponsor obligations to the Canberra Raiders.

Don Furner, CEO of Canberra Raiders, said:
